BMW does pretty well in this segment (which they basically invented). More to the point, the fairly long, heavy V-Rod chassis naturally lends itself to a touring platform, and since H-D already has the chassis, why not exploit the niche with the Revolution motor? It's not as if the present V-Rods are exactly stampeding out of the showrooms --

Hell I frighten myself every day when I look in the mirror! I wonder how I nailed the look you were imagining so well?

Great article, but you miss the boat with your remarks about the Street Bob's mini-apes. The bike is called street BOB for a reason- it is supossed to look like a BOBBER- hence the apes! The flat black paint is also there for the Bobber look. If it had shiny paint and drag bars, it wouldnt be a Bobber, it would be a Dyna-something else. You should have tested another Dyna model if you were going to have heartburn with the styling.

Who cares about bikes for poseurs? Why waste the time and effort to do the test? HD is 100 years old? Still using the same parts, too. They look like it and run like it as well. HD's are just for the "bad boy wanna be's" stockbrokers and dentists and their overweight "babes." Have you seen some of these "ladies?" No amount of tattoos and piercings make a 180 pound woman attractive! All they make is a 180 pound woman with tatoos and piercings. (I have nothing against women who have tattoos. I have seen some very attractive ones, but that's an entirely other story!)

Sturgis? Don't get me started! There's another "nothing" along with Daytona "Bike Week"

There is a real good reason that the HD crowd sticks together - no one else wants anythig to do with them. Cripes - get a real motorcycle. One that goes, handles, stops and is reliable.

And enough of this "Loud Pipes" rubbish! All they do is make folks angry - me included. It's all part of the HD "Look at me!" BS.

Thanks, I feel much better now! Bye-bye!

Wow... some of you anti-Harley guys really need to take a chill pill! I own and a BMW GS and a Harley Road King. I have toured extensively throughout the US and Canada on both bikes. On a recent trip from Chicago to Alaska this past summer I road my Beemer but by far the number one brand that was seen being ridden from the lower 48 to Alaska was good old Harley Davidson. I saw Harleys north of the Artic Circle on the Dalton Highway, also on the Denali Highway, Top of the World Highway, etc.. These guys could hardley be considered "poseurs".

Reliability? Give me a break! In 9 years my Harley has lost it's electronic ignition module once. Outside of that, just fluids and tires. My Beemer has been rock solid, needing only fluids and tires PLUS regular valve adjustments.

Yes my BMW is quicker, handles better, and stops faster than my Harley. BUT on a nice summer day there is nothing that puts a bigger smile on my face than riding out in the country on my good old Road King.

PLUS whenever I've asked a woman out for a ride and given her a choice of which bike we take, they ALWAYS go for the Harley! ALWAYS!

My young nephew once said it best when he overheard his Grandmother asking me why I have 2 bikes. He said "Grandma do you always like the same flavor of ice creme?".

Smart kid ay?
