I think Longride nailed it. Your first bike (and your first car) should be, essentially, fairly harmless POS's that won't get you hurt, will teach you how to cope, and will let you appreciate something good when you finally get it.

I think I'm gonna cry. Could I get a free subscription for ***** slapping Shakespear? "Inconstancy, thy name is Enfield." Just thought I'd ask.

This website needs Ksquid. I think he should have a free renewal. How many bikers do you know that can perform brain surgery on themselves, leave out a few vital parts and still blather on like him ? lets vote on it.

To satisfy the author's curiosity... I had a 2002 Bullet that I put the big-bore high comp (up to 8:1 I believe, if that is even considered hi-comp?) piston kit in, a 32 mm Amul (had to dremel the intake from the 28mm), higher compression valve springs, a full Goldstar Exhaust system (it was louder than most harley's, I even felt a little self-conscious about it and installed the baffle) and put the hotter cams in it, stronger valve springs, stronger clutch springs and a few other knick-knacks... I didn't have this particular bike Dynoed, but the 22 hp is actually about 12 rwhp stock according to the shop I bought the parts through, and supposedly with all this top end work it was good for about mid 20's rwhp and sounded like nothing it did in stock form. It would get up and go but I never made it to top speed as the chassis and brakes never inspired me to find out what the top speed was after the mods... It was a fun and cheap bike to tinker with and I had my fun but recently moved onto a Ducati Sport with a 1080 big-bore kit with 12:1 pistons, Termi full system, ported/polished etc. that puts out 96 rwhp and 75 ft-lbs and is about 390 lbs now... And I got a Raven with just a single mod (a steering damper) for a track bike... I liked the Enfield though, it was a fun machine but you had to take care of it, though it was simple enough... Nice review, interesting topic for MO to tackle!

I don't think this bike as reviewed is the latest Enfield technology. The Electra has the five speed left/hand gearbox but comes with aluminum engine and front disc brake.

After my unhappy experience with an Indian-built LML Stella scooter, my wife and CFO has banned Indian technology from my life. I really would like an Enfield cafe racer and personal mechanic.

I forgot who posted that, btw. You know I don't have the cash for a boat and a KLR.

To answer your question, I ran a 23.74 quarter pulling a 18 foot fiberglass drift boat with two rods and tackle aboard.(no anchor)

Isn't Enfield technology an oxymoron?

Well, a Pinto was my first car. I learned how to change brake pads, calipers and alternators, and how to fix an exhaust pipe with pop cans and hose clamps.

Amazing how kpaul can be wrong about everything.
