Did you add fuel stabilizer before you parked it in the shed? Here's a good link on winterizing:

Oh BTW, first bike: 1982 Yamaha IT250

Yea, actualy I did add stabilizer. Knew there was something I forgot in my tale.

Also, I might add the $2500 price was in Canadian dollars.

You got me laffin' with that'n - I have this friend, he's something of a "troublemaker". He used to have this Laotian guy as his Boss, HIS name was Twan - to which my friend always called him "Tw@t", even to his face.

One day, Twan asks him "Why you no call me my name right, you say 'Tw@t' alla time"? To which, my bud sez with a straight face "Because I can't say 'Twan' ".

Took him over another week to figure it out..........

How about a shootout with the Hondal SL100?

First bike - Honda CB500T. It was heavier, slower, and vibrated more than the 450 it replaced. But it was reliable and fun.

It was actually the first AND the second bike that I owned. I sold it to a friend; a year later he traded it back to me for a high-end Marantz cassette deck.

Great story and a nice looking bike. My first bike was a war surplus Harley 45 that was bobbed and had a suicide clutch (along with hand shift). It was no problem for a 15 yr old like me to ride. I still need to get my 1973 Kawasaki Mach III back on the road - it sounds like the 2-stroke that it is off to the side, but sounds like a turbine while you are riding it over 6500rpm. Just don't go around any corners with it and lean forward when the revs pick up.

Ahh yes. My purple 1971 Yamaha 90 Enduro was a fine specimen. huge rip in the seat, banged up,it ran according to a complex interaction between legitimate mechanical failure and gremlin-related trouble. The speedo was already gone, fenders beaten to a pulp, suspension shot. You could kick in vain until you had a coronary with nary a hint of life before it unexplainedly fired up.

I sure miss that bike.

Thanks, Scuddy. Fine read. Brought back great memories of hanging around Barry Higgins' old shop in Smyrna (Paces Ferry @ Atlanta Road) and droolin' over Jawa Speedway bikes - and Barry's Ossa Pioneer. And more memories of my old friend, Terry Gahl & filming him (Bolex!) racing his CZ - a fine MX bike for the day.

And my first bike, a coppery colored '71 DT-1.

Excellent, Smithers!

Funny how the best of our times and the worst of our times move in tandem.

I have a H2. Hard to believe some other bike would have better power-to-handling ratio. That got me into some interesting solo flying positions.

But what really scared me was a near orphan making incident. Frankly, both me and my wife had 99% probability to become ripe meat through a Volvo´s radiator when I blew the box changing to the second gear. Its all water under the bridge now, all is forgiven and the gearbox is assembled although not in the frame yet.

When I get to Finland this Feb you´ll get to see some photos (I have also a pending photo of Che Guevara to share, I have a new camera now).

So what if I had a long wet lunch. Hey I work in Latin America where the life is tough.
