Re: Noise: A MO Investigation
We used to eat C-rations when I fought forest fires...No ciragerettes in them. But I like the P38 can opener. The green eggs were ok.. But Spaghetti was my favorite. With the little round saltines in the can.. We used to fight over the apple sauce. Latter on we moved on to MRE.. i.e freezed dried beef and rice, beef and beans etc.

Go to a music store and ask musicians what they wear.I use Hearos, the premium brand as I can hear my band /traffic[depending on use] and survive, above all, dont be cheap!

I broke down and bought a pair of customs at the IMS last year and love them. Foams are still more comfortable but I like that I can move my jaw just so, to negate the hearing protection. Comes in handy at stop light conversations. Though I always have a back up pair of foams in every piece of riding gear I own.

Re: Custom Fitted!
I'm a big fan of the lick and stick method too. Caught my friend doing it and thought the same thing, disgusting. But it works great and doesnt taste too bad. At least you dont have to wash your plugs.

This post is just wrong on so many levels...

One should always lick silicone plugs before insertion.

That is undoubtedly the funniest article on earplugs I have ever read.

Re: Noise: A MO Investigation
I got in line at the Motorcycle Show a few years ago and got fitted for a pair of custom earplugs. They're expensive but they've lasted a long time, they're comfortable and the noise reduction is tops. Great article.

I bought a pair at the last IMS too. They pop out the instant I start removing my helmet, grind against my melon, and then roll under the bike. They weren't made incorrectly, it's just how my ears are. Lucky me!

I did my graduate work in waves and found your treatise much more enjoyable and clearer than anything at the university. FYI, I traded my jet airplane for a BMW figuring I had poluted the sound spectrum emough.
