![]() I lived in Hollywood near Sunset and Bronson for 5 years. I don't want to know more than I already do. Really.

![]() "The saddlebags hold eight gallons."
I'm not even sure where to start with this...eight gallons of what? Gabe, do the eight gallons have to be prepackaged, say in 750 ml bottles or perhaps 12 ounce cans, or do you just pour your load into the bags? Is there a filler port or do you have to fill 'em with the case open? Can you fill them on the bike or should you pour, and then close? Enquiring minds need to know. |

![]() I know this has been brought up about many bikes; Why not get two bikes? Don't get me wrong, I really like the FJR.
It seems like Yamaha has tried to put too much sport in a tourer or the other way around. I know what a RT, ST, GSXR, R1 etc are for, but where does this bike fall? Is it a heavy, fast VFR or a fast, cramped GL? This bike seems to beg me to shop for a used tourer and sport bike and spread that $15k around. Or, I just had too much diet coke. |

![]() Ok, it sounds like you’ve been around enough to remember motorcycle market of the mid 80’s: Yamaha, Kawasaki, and others grossly miss-judged the US marketplace, brought in container loads of bikes they couldn't sell, then practically gave them away, pissing off: 1) Owners that paid close to retail and watched their bike's value go into the toilet; 2) Dealers who saw their margins go a similar direction; 3) Lending institutions that saw the value of their ‘paper’ disappear, and: 4) Aftermarket suppliers that used manufacturer sales data to develop and introduce new products for these bikes.
Classic example – ’82 Seca 650 Retail $3099 when introduced, you could purchase a new unit in ’85 for $1699 OTD. (I did, my brother did, and two other friends as well, all in different parts of the country, no "group buy"). There are many other examples, maybe the Suzuki Madura owners can chime in. If anything, the deposit program shows great restraint by Yamaha not to risk trashing a market, alienating owners, dealers, aftermarket suppliers, etc. While I’m not in the market currently for an FJR – or any bike - as I view the program from a business perspective, I’m a bit more pragmatic and would give Yam a passing grade. YMMV |
