Sounds like you don't ride much at all.

1 mile on a Ninja = 100 miles on a Harley

Default Put a sock in it

Put a sock in it longride. This guy makes some great points. He rides for the fun of it. He doesn't own his bike as a fashion statement or a group peer pressure. Good for him

He does make some great points. He also really shows those Harley guys, I'll tell ya. He's still my hero no matter what you say. I want to be just like him, but I'm afraid I will never make the high standard he sets for me.

As someone once pointed out to me: How *frustrating* it must be working as a NVH Engineer for Harley Davidson - You design an exhaust that;

a) Looks good, doesn't detract from the bike one bit.

b) Sounds good, all the while still meeting 90db. driveby laws.

and:

c) Makes good power, and works well with the stock carburetion/FI.

but is:

d) The absolutely *FIRST* thing the new owner is going to hack up/rip off the bike and throw in the ashcan.

I pay attention to bikes, even when I'm not on one. I can count on ONE HAND the number of stock-piped Harleys I've seen out and about. Some are louder than others, of course. And the metric cruisers and sportbikes are not exempt from this "finger-shaking" either.

Mind you, I have one bike right now that's a bit loud - my Hawk needs packing in the "skuzzy Muzzy" that's on it (I didn't put it there, the P.O. did) - but I intend to quiet it as soon as I can get a round 'tuit. But I don't "rack 'em off" at every stoplight, and I keep the revs down in residential areas (the attention you attract with loud pipes is NOT the good kind, IMHO).

I"ll take mine quite please. I participated in the Big Texas Toy Ride this past weekend. With more than 50,000 bikes (yes, you read that number correctly) I began wonder if the communities we passed through would continue to tolerate our loud charity ride in the coming years. I've got to buy a tach for next year so I can tell if my motor is running because I sure can't hear anything else but those HDs with the aftermarket pipes. Love the HDs, the loud pipes, not so much.
