Probably the reason he asked the question is some unfortunates are limited to just having one bike (sad, but true), so would have to make do with it in all circumstances.

I agree. I'd still take my 97 GSX-R1100 over today's 600s for that very reason.

Are either of these bikes as comfortable as a sport tourer like a VFR or an ST3. No. Could you ride either all day? Only with large doses of painkiller, a very young and flexible body, or a lower spine replaced with rubber bands. Is the SV650 a better street bike? Oh, yeah. Would I rather have a Buell XB12Ss for my everyday, do everything bike? Yes.



In the real world the ability to reach 160+ MPH doesn't matter.

Let me type this real slow, so everyone will understand. I own a 96 VFR with nothing in particular done to it, except being shod with Sportecs. My friend, who rides maybe a tad better than I, has an RC 51, with a bit of work to the electronics, pipes, etc. If we were to go to the the track, he would undoubtedly hand me ass on a platter. In the real world. IT DON'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE. He can't run off and leave me unless there is a long straight stretch because YOU CAN ONLY GO SO FAST ON PUBLIC ROADS. He can't see around the corner any further than I can, and has to account for the odd animal, 4X4, farm implement, wild animal, or damn fool the same as I do. If you can't keep up with your buddy on any reasonably capable sportbike, either you don't ride fast enough, or He is riding too damn fast, and will soon find that out.

Open class sportbikes do nothing for me,

Way too much power overwhelms the chassis.

600 fours are just too much damn work,

Shifting incessantly would make me berserk.

Surely there's something that won't make me sour,

With high-end suspension and usable power.

The perfect machine will shortly arrive,

It's called the Daytona six-seventy-five.

Good God!! Can you think about this a sec. The BUSA has a considerable higher power-to-weight ratio. You must be dulled by the higher weight of the Busa and not thinking about this. THe Gixxer with approx a 120 lb weight difference and about the same HP cannot in any sense of the word be "duller" than the Busa. You must be commenting on the awesome torque of the Busa without really realizing that the roll-on numbers are very close between the two.

Well done, you have restored my faith in motorcycle editors. The R6 is all the average guy needs on the track and it is way more than you need on the street. That said, IF I rode on the street I'd get the Gixxer or the R1 because used with care and skill the same motor that will land you in jail or the hospital can also keep you out of trouble.



I was caught up in that gotta have the next best biggest fastest two wheel rocket thing for a while then I got the itch for something different that you just cant go out and buy so I built a track day tool...



My ratty 21 year old Yamaha 500 two stroke weighs in at 319 dry and pulls 109 HP at the rear wheel at a lazy 10,200 RPM but the real story is the 58.9 ftlbs of torque. It really teaches you throttle control and cornerspeed 'cause if you dont get them right you might as well get off and push!! But if you get it right that's when the magic happens.



It puts a smile on your face when you keep it at full boil and start stringing them corners together. Your lap times start dropping and them guys pullin the trigger on the literbikes have a harder time catching you on the straits.



BTW tell the guy with the Submariner that there are modifcations that will make it even more superlative if it was made after about 1975

I was at CLASS at VIR a few years ago and brought my GS500. Had great fun hounding and passing the big GSXR's and Ducati's. Only to get sucked into their maw 200 yards down the straight.



Then I did a track day at BlackHawk and some old guy (20+ years older) on a GS500 left me in the dust. I weighed an extra 120lb but had an extra 40 horses to compensate. Didn't matter.



It's ALL about the rider. The bike is irrelevant. If it wasn't for companies trying to get R&D money, I'd say the whole world should ban anything over 800cc. There is abso-fscking NOT ONE good reason to have liter or bigger bikes. Motorcycles are supposed to be SMALL, light, and simple. Otherwise drive the bloody car.
