Re: Wet Riding, Wild Women and WIMA
Sarnali was relaxed once, but since he got that new H-D, he's a hell raiser, I tell ya! The man cannot be stopped!

Um, we figured it out already
Oh, it just seems wonderful. Except that when you actually speak to people that live in the socialist utopias in Europe and Canada, you find out that actually getting extensive medical care is next to impossible. For instance, it takes about a year in Sweden to get a doctor's appointment--even if you're dying. I've got a friend (who's about as leftist as they come) who lives there now with his Swedish fiancee--they both say it's not ideal as it all sounds. And if you make any money, they take an obscene amount in taxes. Does wonders for incentive.

In Canada, there's a nice little cottage industry the doctors have started where people are paying them cash under the table to get appointments. And who can blame them, considering not many people want to become doctors because it's not very profitiable (something we're beginning to face here).

The European economies are sucking wind, due in large part to the massive social programs they have to support. France has all sorts of problems. Spain has a very low per capita income. The whole of Europe's military power is dwarfed by one U.S. battle group, which I suppose is fine when you can sub-contract your military affairs to the U.S. and Great Britain, anyway. (Hmm, but what happens when the U.S. gets all social, too?) How many European nations would be secure without the protection of NATO A.K.A. The US/UK?

Sure, Socialism sounds great...until you actually get it.

Yeah, we've got serious problems here that need to be addressed. But signing over our lives and income to bureaucrats isn't the way to solve them.

Re: Wet Riding, Wild Women and WIMA
It's very debatable as to whether the New Deal policies had any real effect on the economy.

Econ 101. Economies are man made they don't just happen
First the economy is a man made thing. It's not an act of nature. Business cycles are caused. Bush Sr. Raised taxes remember to balance the budget . "Remember the no new taxes thing"... Clinton continued it on moving to surpluses. See the following. links. Also Clintons Treasury sec. was a genius cause he worked with Newt on this. Read some more books and stop watching Fox News please.

Record Deficits caused by giving the rich a tax cut during an unnecessary war.

Looks like Michael Moore and George Soros sure posted a lot of replies (using aliases). As usual, there are no solutions from them except hate. So lets get on with the babes. There have been too many expectations - not everyone looks like the Swedish Bikini Team. Just look at the average California girl, who is 50 pounds overweight just like me. Yep, I'm old and fat. I bet the gals in the article can outride the bikini chicks, and are probably a lot more fun in the long run. At least they can carry on a conversation that is coherent.

Good comment. The government does NOT know what is best for us. Remember the government is run by politicians, which should explain everything.

Re: Wet Riding, Wild Women and WIMA
Who said that? Which economist? Talk about a Keynesian big bang macroeconomic hammer the New Deal along with WWII were. Remember Government controls the economy (it's a man made thing) by fiscal and monetary policy. No such thing as natural business cycle. i.e they are made by changes in government policy.

Re: Wet Riding, Wild Women and WIMA
Hmm.. Actually we have been quoting facts and data. I am welcome any data you have that says the current fiscal policy being pursued by the Bush Administration is not a disaster. I have never seen a Moore picture or read anything by Soros. I get my news from the WSJ, NY Times, and CNN. I find that these sources tend to be more objective and complete than FoxNews. In fact the Wall Street Journal has been Bush's biggest critic on the Federal Budget Deficit. Go figure.

Re: Um, we figured it out already
I don't think sarnali is saying that we should adopt a socialist system. I think you missed his point. He maks a excellent point i.e. do you want to give your trust to big companies, where you have no voice. Corporations now are multinational golliaths. The U.S. system is alot about balance of power. Right now things are too far to one side....Most people are moderates like myself. In fact most people polled say the country is going in the wrong direction. see for details. We need to get back to the middle with policies.
