"I guess with Harley you don't get much "go fast" for your $31K"

To paraphrase Nathan Arizona, "That ain't their god-d*mn raise-on-det."

There's more to riding than twisting your wrist real hard.

I'm sorry the Super Glide Sport is gone. Now there's a Harley I could get into.

At least I still have the Buell XB12R to drool over.

Eddie sounds like a frustrated barmaid to me. I think she should just serve the drinks and shut up.

the biggest challenge HD faces for the future is not emissions, or high prices, it is the arrogant, incompetent swill that they accept (and encourage) as dealerships. I tried buying a 2006 Street Glide, had cash in hand, and on Long Island, the dealerships all had disgusting attitudes, like they were doing me a favor selling me the bike. I knew more about the model than every salesman I encountered. In most cases, they wouldn't even give me a clear price on the bike, picking a fairly arbitrary and inflated number, and were unwillling to break down the fees.

Then you get the usual rap about how this bike comes with a "lifestyle", that's why the fees (and attitude) are justifed. I dunno, when I see the crowd at a given HD rally, I'm not thinking that I should be paying a premium to hang out with these people.

HD knows about these tactics, and it is obvious that they encourage this behavior from their dealers. For the third time in my biking life, I went into and HD dealer intent on buying a bike, and for the 3rd time, the experience left me so bitter that I cannot wait for the bubble to burst on Harley Davidson.

Okay, so after you've spent 15 minutes doing that, what are you going to do while you wait for your buddies to finish their maintenance?

Sounds like your dealers there suck. There are plenty of good ones out there. I'm sure you can find a dealer to get you the bike you want at MSRP. As for the 'lifstyle' thing, you don't have to hang around with anybody, much less pay for it. Harley can't do a thing about dealers, as they are independent businessmen. The best way to deal with it is to find a dealer that values your business.

I have owned and ridden HDs in the past, but I have not been a fan for quite a while. The lack of reliability and performance turned me off, not to mention the whole HD "shtick." However, I have to say that, as we all know, HD has come a long way, and I find myself looking longingly at some of their bikes. I am currently selling my 2000 warmed over Bandit so I can finish my hot rod (I know blasphemy!) and a Road King or the new Superglide are really appealing, after the rod is done. It is kinda funny – I never though I would be a HD fan again, nor ride a non-sporting, non-high performance bike but it just goes to show you that everything changes. Comfort is calling louder than power I can’t use on the street anyway. Of course this is all predicated on being able to afford one Damn, I shoulda married a rich woman!

I hear you! Our local dealer has been pretty good. They figured out that the catering to "scooter trash" is not good for the long term and have been pretty decent. Now the dealership has been sold so it will be interesting to see what the new owners have in store.
