To all the sqids out there who are just about to sign the dotted line on that check/loan paper at the dealership where that shiny R1 has captured their fancy, repeat after me...

"It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow."

Repeat this to yourself maybe 20 times, end up buying the R1 anyway, have the time of your life for a year (if it doesn't get stolen or wrecked, that is), wind up buying a used DP 'just for a little variety now and then', and then... pass on the same advice to the next to-be sqid you meet.

OK, so you like the big chookie, well how about a trial of KTM950A, R1200GS, R1150GSA, Honda XL1000Varadero, Suzuki V-Strom, Triumph 955i Tiger?

Which is the best all rounder modern motorcycle for the money?

Which is the one best suited to less than ideal condition that you experience in adventure touring? and,

Which is the best rally bike?

Good gas mileage until you jet, pipe and air filter the beast. Then it was right there with my K12RS at around 38mpg. Though I did manage during break in to get almost 300 miles out of one tank on my '99 KLR. Typically I would have to switch to reserve at about 180 miles, but I'm a freak of nature at 6'6" 285. I put about $2k worth of mods onto my KLR, still cheaper than most anything else though. Sold it shortly after buying my BMW, but sure miss it. 950 Adventure is my next bike, felt like a KLR with a 916 crammed in it.

I don't want to be a guy who spoils a good story, especially since I ride a VFR, but how fast could you be going if you had time to notice that he had bald tires?

Default Re: Too short

TOO SHORT? You gotta love this! They finally make a bike that doesn't cater to short guys and they complain! Finally a bike us 6'5" riders can enjoy without major comprimises in comfort and ridablility. Now if only they sold of the shelf riding gear to match! Strom must mean "keep the little girlie-men away from me" in german!
