I worked at the shop that supplies the frames for BD. I never got an exact figure, but I believe a softtail frame of that particular sort is about $5-6k if you buy it directly from them. I dunno what they're supplying them to BD for, though.

(FYI, the cost to MAKE the frame is about $700, or so I heard. The whole American cuiser industry seems to be operated at an obscene profit)

Wouldn't BD have a MUCH worse price/performance ratio than HD? Seems you're acting out of character...

Eh? I'm not so sure about that. My buddy put a NICE looking softtail together for 8k. Spared no chrome, cept for a misc part by the axle block ("That little thing right there. It's the only thing I couldn've had chromed that I didn't") Granted, he knew the builder, so he just paid for parts, but I doubt that the guy charges >15K for labor.

Looks like an exercise in how many ways you can paint the same thing.

Hey, that'll be an important feature on their upcoming dual sport model.

The only problem with your attempted derision is that it applies equally as well to the sportbike mafia, or the BMW crowd or any other afficianados of any particluar style of bike.
