He can't grasp the HDs are eternally rebuildable, while the Japanese (and probably the Triumphs too) are overwhelmingly expensive to bebuild. Replacing 3 gears on a 1982 Honda Magna cost me $400 for the gears and three times the hours it took to completely rebuild a 1981 shovelhead.

'Course, Kook wouldn't know a torque-wrench from a Puma sneaker.

Maybe not you, but there are plenty of buyers able and willing. I sold my 96 Heritage Softail for $15,000 on e-Bay. Bought it in 96 for $14,500. That paid for my EH and my Royal Star. Another thing, I never had anything cause problems on the Harley, even though I had a hotter cam, carb mods, and Thunderheaders. Just changed the Amsoil once a year....I sold it because I'd been riding it for seven years and wanted an EH, that's all....

I think you're both off track here, the bottom line is buy what you want, I've never bought a bike based on resale or percieved value, I bought what I wanted at the time and rode the ***** out of it till I got bored then I got something else, When I rode and built HD's, all the yup's were into Volvo's and BMW's, now I ride sportbikes they're into HD's, Think I give a *****? ride what you want, I do! FTW.

Shoulda held on a little longer (not EH, but you). EH didn't bail; the availability of Harleys, the high price, and the surge in profitability of tech stocks killed them. The tranny problem was due to sloppy build tolerances, inadequate bushing material, and inadequate width of bearings. It's basically a V-Max tranny, so you know it can hold up! With proper bushing material, fitted with correct tolerances to shafts, the trannies are causing no problems at all. Just consider a tranny rebush as part of the purchase price, and as anyone in the X e-community will tell you, DON'T RIDE IT UNTIL YOU RE-BUSH THE TRANNY!

Hey Buz, most people learn all they know about business from their communist govt teachers and the socialist clowns who run the new agencies. They can't add 2 and 2, but they certainly are aware that teachers are underpaid. Demonization of business is part and parcel of the system to loot said business by govt agencies, political organizations and other parasitic hucksters.

Everybody knows that all businessmen get ahead by screwing their employees and their customers, right?

I'm really sorry that the only jobs I've ever gotten were given me by those evil businessmen. For some reason I've never been hired by any of those enlightened teachers or socialist pundits.

Default Now THAT is funny.

The EH -vs- Yamaha story was wonderful. The "discussion" here has been at times very entertaining but this had me laughing outloud.

Thanks, seruzawa-san.

Default The 67 Impala vs 02 Accord.

No one would dispute the rebuildable thing. Its kind of like a muscle car with a V-8. Question is whether you would want to live with the equivalent of a 67 Impala forever. Yes you can replace with small blocks, in this case V-Twins, forever. However, No thanks I take my Accord.

Default Re: the Highwayman is a well paid marketing ploy.

Harley has no need to exploit patriotism. People will continue to buy all they build because of the indefinable Harley mystique. The Harley sound, the Harley feel, and the hard-earned reputation they've built as being a part of Americana (just like Chevrolet) is all they need to keep selling Harleys. I've owned many brands of bikes over the last forty six years, and other than my 1950 Whizzer, only a Harley gives the sound and feel that make me feel good all over when I ride. Now if only I could find some Supertrapps for my EH, maybe I could get that sound to be less like a Honda twin pop-pop=pop and more like a Harley growl!!!
