Actually there is an entire ocean between you and that splattered Spaniard (you referenced a gulf).

Johnny, you're a strange combination - a liberal who actually likes and approves wheelies and burnouts! Aren't you worried about insurance rates, the terrible effects of these activities on the nation's children, etc.? No? So far so good, but your assertion that the media are not really liberally biased is simply absurd. Granted, only 98% of the media are liberal now, instead of the former 99.9%. It is great fun to hear the liberals whine simply because some media outlets, like Rush, actually have the temerity to question and even ridicule, some of the previously inviolate "correct" thinking of the liberal masses. Better get used to it.

It seems empirically true that the intelligentsia are predominantly liberal, but that is probably a result of 18 years of being exposed to whacked -out liberal teachers, and partly due to the lack of common sense exhibited by many "highly educated" folks. Some of us actually do think for ourselves and realize that much of the liberal crap cannot stand up to the rigors of cross examination. it sounds great, but just does not work in the real world. That's why there are so few succesful liberal talk show hosts. Once the callers start to question their statements, they simply fall apart.

Well, enough ranting. I really do enjoy reading your stories, so I will continue to browse MO, in spite of your wrongheaded political opinions. Why, some of my best friends are liberals!

well, this is probably a troll, but i'll bite.....

from what dark body cavity did you pull the "98% of the media are liberal now" figure? apparently, you've never seen fox news, cnn, msnbc, or any of the broadcast news shows..... have you seen any of them even remotely question his appointancy, W, or any of his hypocritical policies of that are really karl rove's?? granted, there are liberal news media outlets too, but as burns noted in this column, if you don't like the new york times' editorial page, then read the wall street journal's....

i think most of the "liberal crap" AND most of the "non-liberal" crap won't stand up to the rigors of cross-examination either.... i mean have you heard any intelligent person question limbaugh? you know why? because they dont listen to his show, thus they dont call....

"Could it be, then, that these "biased" journalists simply have a better grasp of the facts than the average reader? Also, by choosing to go into journalism instead of business or marketing, could it be that they tend more toward altruism than egoism?"

I disagree. Journalism is an inherently squishy profession to one degree or another, like art. Could it be that people who pursue journalism might tend to be more touchy-feely than those who pursue math/science stuff?

The, um, left-brained among us just tend to be less interested in writing. And I doubt that journalists go into their careers for the good of the world more often than anybody else. Well, more than porn stars.

[*]Excellent your best one yet. Being a Young Republican (McCain variety) I have to say you right about the Rush (extreme Right) crowd... boring.[*] Your words "the general population will never accept motorcycles any more than they'll ever agree that skydiving is a wholesome family activity" is classic Burns good stuff.[*] As far a Boehm he is like Rush boring. Burns you write better. You are spot on about journalist being liberals cause if you are conservative you go into business. If you like science and are conservative you major in engineering, liberal you major in a pure science like biology, chemistry, physics pursuing altrusistic goals.

[*]On the otherhand, just to make sure you you don't think ole KPaul has lost his edge I have to say liberals suck when it comes to crime and how welfare should work. Oh and they suck on defense. OK I am done now.

Keep up the good work MO

And I thought that everyone was constantly leaving Motorcyclist because Mitch Boehm was a fat a$$hole. Little did I know that he enforces his politics on others too. I am glad to say that it has been a long time since my subscription to that magazine expired. I was looking at it recently at the library and noticed that 3 recent issues had "03's!!!" as the cover story. Who the hell cares about seeing one photo and a caption about every new bike for next year...three times in a row!? When a magazine udergoes staff changes every six->twelve months, something is amiss. In any event, how about an article about what is wrong with homosexuality and those who condone it?

You make a good point. To say Journalism majors have better grasp than the average Jerry Springer watching folk is probably correct. But in college. Journalism majors were like you said touchy feely types who got freaked out with fractions and polynomials. So they are probably down on the IQ side compared to other college grads.

Jexter 12-02-2002 05:46 PM

Oh yeah...

Totally agree with ya on burnouts and whatnot, Mr. B. More rants!
