Not to mention: "...we couldn't decide if we're all loosers for liking scooters...." And that's just in the intro.

You mean European culture?

Like the British Tabloid press?

Or the old people waiting for days to get a broken bone set in those socialized hospitals?

Don't start. Neither side can win such a comparison.

Agreed, the scooter I had to putt around Venice (before a woman killed it running a red light) was chosen for it's ability to be parked anywhere, because it was cheap and dead simple. The Silverwing may be able to go 100mph, but why would you want to with 14 inch wheels? The thought of hitting a pothole or brick at speed makes me shudder.

so then I take it you also do not like the idea of bicycles being ridden on the road?

But isn't it ironic that you mispelled "sportbike" as "sprtbike"?

Just flippin' ya crap...

Yeah it's ironic. But hell I'm a science guy, by definition I shouldn't be able to spell very well. Anyway Stickie, I forgot to mention that other than that little detail your sidepanel was well written and interesting.

Take care,

Dave

Default HEY!!!! DERBI AND MALAGUTIS KICK ASS!!!

I'm tired of how Derbi and Malaguti are ignored by this site! Malaguti sold 3000 units last year- more than BMW sold annually in the early 90's.

The air-cooled Derbi Atlantis 50 is made in Spain, has a Piaggio (like Vespa) power plant, and will do 50 mph. I've done it personaly, clocked by a friend's car speedometer. That bike is $1899 and is as reliable as John Burns' alchohol consumption.

The liquid-cooled Derbi GP-1 has dual disc brakes, hi-quality suspension, and will do 55 mph, getting up to speed a lot faster than the Mexican-built POS's reviewed here. Malaguti has a range of Yamaha-powered bikes that will kick ass on the bikes in the article.

C'mon, MO, check these bikes out!

The bigger scooters (100cc +) are great. The 50cc scooters have to ride on the side of the road, because they can't keep up with traffic. Getting passed all the time by cars and trucks...I'm not that brave.
