I always though alignment terminology came from the orientation of the engine in the frame, not the crank position. At least, that't the way it is in cars.

Hi, I have a v11sport also and wasn't happy with the tires, I couldn't put my finger on it but I read a long term review in july or august cycle world mag and they recomended the bridgestone BT 020 in a 160 size for the rear instead of the 170. Much nicer.

You showed me a picture of Brittney Spears, nude, with her ankles over her head (the Intermot Guzzi showbike) and you want me to get excited over the styling of the current offering? I'd need to replace the blue diamonds in my daily bowl of Lucky Charms cereal, with Viagra, before that'll happen. If the folks at Moto Guzzi have any interest in converting my white trash into tifosi, bring on the showbike.

Verticle twin Triumphs and BSAs of the 60's also experienced reduced vibration after break-in. I owned a 1970 Ksaki W650SS I bought in Japan and shipped to the states. It was a virtual copy of the pre-unit BSA 650 (except that it had Mikuni carbs, Nissin electrics, all metric parts and wasn't made of crap British domestic steel - a vast improvement.) It vibrated horribly at first, but smoothed out over time until it was no longer intrusive at all. By the time it hit 10K it was fine. Synching the carbs periodically never noticably affected the vibration.

You may be right about the crankshaft orientation determining if the engine is transverse. I,however, was refering to the alignment of the pistons in relation to the frame. VWW

These new Guzzis are fantastic. The new models have many improvements, including hydraulic lifters; ya Aprilia!

My friend's '98 V11 cruiser is a better sportbike than many 'sport' bikes (the passenger pegs work perfectly for sporty riding), and never fails to be admired by everyone. The new Lemans is to my liking, as it's frame-mount fairing stabalizes the handling compared to the fork-mounted fairing models. The Lemans feels different than the other V11 Sports.

Hepco-Becker makes a very nice three-piece hard luggage combo for the V11.

As an owner of a Ducati and Fiat Spider, there's something about how the Italians build machines that makes one feel good. To ride a V11, an older 900ss, or drive an Alfa Romeo GTV makes one feels wonderful, and much cooler than one actually is; can a machine do much more? Even my rattly, old Fiat makes me feel fast at 60mph.

All I as is that Guzzi makes an optional tail section that works for passenger.

Your terminology and explanation is, to the best of my knowledge, correct. Since the people on this list range from experts to newbies I try to avoid using terms like these without an explanation. This post was too long already so I used terms that I felt didn't need explanation.

All engines should smooth during break-in. The original point of this thread was that any vibration is more noticeable on an engine with the engine mounted as they are in a Guzzi.

As far as synchronization of the FI or carbs, it only helps if the carbs are out of sync. BMW (and I have been told carbureted MGs) carbs tend to go out of sync pretty quickly until everything settles in. Parallel twins like your bike or an old twin carb Triumph have the carbs mounted on the same head just a few inches part, I would think they would tend to stay in sync compared to an engine with two head some distance apart. If the carbs on your W650SS were in sync and adjusted properly no amount of carb work would reduce vibration.

I'm not a Guzzi expert, the new (FI) bikes seem to have a good design as the throttle bodies are fairly rigidly mounted to each other and the throttle plates are connected by a rod. This may be a non-issue for the newer bikes.
