LUV the look of the new ZR1000. those pipes look goooood. But for a naked bike it dun look too pillon friendly. If I wanted a single seater I go for the full blown sports model fairing and all. Hope Kawa has something for those that want to ride 2 up. It looks too good not to want to take your burd on it.

Yamaha must be delighted to have the 'Competent-600cc Sportbike-With-Sensible-Ergos' category all to itself now (I can't quite bring myself to include the Katana 600 in this category). Yes, I agree; the "R" version shoulda' had slightly less aggressive ergos than its racier stablemate. This was a marketing snafu.

BTW, did you know that the word "snafu" originated as an acronym used by soldiers in WW II that stands for "Situation Normal All F*cked Up?" Neither did I.

A HUGE leap forward in UGLINESS.

Oof. The Superbike is awful, the 1000SS has the same bad styling as the old 900, and the Multistrada looks like dooky.

So you have ridden and or sat on both the ST1300 and the FJR 1300??? Well let me be the first to kiss your boots. I have been waiting just to SEE in person these two. The local shop here in Central Florida su**s Won't see either until November maybe late October.

I have sat on the ZZR though and find it just a little cramped, but I can understand a skinny guy like you only has Dunlops on the wheels.

That is the problem with almost all the sport bikes. If you enjoy you beer just a little too much they tend to get uncomfortable. I've done the cruisers for the last two years and I'm tired of rattling my teeth. I want to do so long range touring and still be able to get feaky if I want. Anyway, Still waiting on Yamaha to get off the pot and send the DJR to Florida.

Default forged pistons are 5mm lighter

Could someone clarify the title of this post?

The 600cc engine sounds like a last minute kluge to me. In stead of shortening the block they've destroked the 636 to 600 and stretched the rod, making the engine heavier in relation to the built-to-order Yamaha and Honda. Then they reduced the lift, which will reduce torque at high rpm.

I work at a dealer that has the big 4, plus a few others. We've gotten one FJR (the first 6 ones we get are sold already!) in, and it'll be a while before another comes. I only rode it around the parking lot. It is very nice, but too upright for me. But it might be perfect for a LONG haul.

The ST1300 we haven't gotten in yet, but I expect to to be close to the ST1100 in seat to peg to bar relationship.

I'm not sure what the Dunlops have to do with anything, you lost me there.
