Default O.K, I'll Bite...

O.K. first of all, if we really want to help out the world and our pocketbooks we would not worry about paying for a couple of dough-heads who wrecked their bikes and weren't wearing a bucket--they are a very small minority of patients in hospitals today.

I know, I am a nurse.

I hardly ever see a bike wreak patient -- I have worked ER and now work on a step-down unit (critical care). When I do see them they usually are Harley riders (yes I ask, I am always in the market for a used fixxer upper sport bike).

{rant}What kind of patients are the biggest money suckers? The smokers and drinkers. They stay in the hospital for months and months klinging to life and regreting every smoke and drink they had. Expiring due to COPD is a lengthy process and cost the precious tax payers lots of money. Lots of times they have the pleasure of having a heart attack also. (something to look forward to there JonnyB, keep it up and we will be supporting you also, even if you do wear a helmet!) Now, there is way too much money in tobacco and alcohol, so, besides some overdue tax increases they will remain the health industries biggest problems, and their biggest money makers imho.{/rant}

So, the whole the taxpayers must pay for the stupid motorcycle riders argument is crap. Motorcyclist are just easy targets. I get crap all of the time because I ride a sportbike (CBR600F2) to the hospital. Crap by nurses who smoke is my favorite. There is a good chance that I will NOT die due to riding my motorcycle, whereas a smoker WILL die due to smoking. (O.K. another rant -- sorry)

So, what's next? Maybe a loud pipes saves lives article?

Democrats and Socialists??? I'll wear the helmet if you let Jerry Fallwell and George W decide what you can watch, read, do in the privacy of your home, what church you must go to (currently called public school, but wait for the Republicans to change that), what is appropriate attire, what music is OK etc. The Republicans and conservatives have been shoving their fictitious version of reality down our throats since long before that brain dead idiot Reagan. I believe prohibition was a right wing idea, as are many of the social engineering concepts floating around today. If you can't come up with a reasonable argument to post without resorting to worn out BS, you should stick to the NRA website, where your crap would be appreciated.

Your right though, smokers and cronic drunks cost a hell of alot more than motorcyclists, but the state collects alot of tax money off and subsidizes both industry's so you know thats not going to change, High school football players get injured more than motorcylists and at a young age, but f-ball is an all american sport and bikers are questionable at best, It doesn't seem that fairness comes into the argument

I ride, I drink, I smoke. All my choices, and all my business. Do you eat fast food? That's the current target. We'll all be living in plastic bubbles if people like you get their way.

Hey man, I never said not to smoke, drink and ride. I was just saying that motorcyclist are not the main patients in the hospital and they can't use that as an excuse for helmet laws.

I don't care what you do. I really don't. I also think they should legallize pot. I don't eat a lot of fast food because I am a vegetarian. I am also a Army Vet. I am huge into freedom of choice.

And yes, I am not the best speller.

(I know, I know, what is a "speller"?)

Man, this freedom stuff sure does bring out the urine and vinegar in all of us! Woo hoo. (I used the word urine so it wouldn't get censored by the facist owners of Motorcycle.com -- I am also against censhorship)

Default Safety Safety!

I can't wait until the government comes into my bedroom and makes sure I'm wearing a penis helmet (condom), so I don't hurt myself and possibly get an STD from sex.

Isn't there a compromise to solve the conundrum?

How about this: You're free to ride without a helmet, but if you crash without one on, you're only entitled to x% of the money we pay into social security.

The gives people the freedom that they want while making sure the soft-top brigade keep their hands off our hard-earned money when they end up swapping their bike for a motorized wheelchair.
