Default Re: Honda vs. BMW. The case for BMW,

Well,

I have a 1990 BMW k1 with 125,000 miles on it, and people still regularly think its a new bike. It gets ridden rain or shine, almost all year round up here in New England. I know lots of beemer pilots that have really high miles on them (like well over 100k) and you just don't see that as much with Hondas or Suzukis, Yamahas etc. And these are folks that are not just putting around on the weekends, either. When it gets cold up here, the only people you see on bikes are BMW guys. True also when it's raining.

I have owned many Japanese bikes, at least one from every manufacturer. They were great, and worked well, but even a cursory inspection of a BMW reveals that everything on the bike is just really built for the long haul, much heavier duty, with the penalty being that they are a bit more expensive, and heavier.

BTW the bike still hauls ass.

Anyway, keep on ridin'. It's all good.

Default Have your cake and eat it too with a Honda, etc.

CBR 900 RR is sweet, it started the revolution of open class bikes right. I have a friend that has two one for the street and one for the track. He says the same thing very durable and fun to ride. I guess I am like you my bike is escape/fun like a poor man's Corvette. So to me a BMW would not the fit my demands for perfomance. It just happens that my "non-German" bike is reliable as well that makes me happy. Apparantly you can have your cake and eat it too i.e. if you buy a Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki.

The 650CS is a dandy,

with styling that makes my face grin.

But what if I start to feel randy,

in a race with a bus would I win?

And what of the price which is so steep,

a bargain this is nowhere near.

Comparatively Harleys are priced cheap,

a thumper should not be so dear!

Alas I shall have to keep shopping,

a purchase like this would be rash.

Like a pizza without any topping,

Far too plain for a big pile of cash.

This bike is butt ugly in real life and in pictures. BMW's are way over priced. Why would anyone buy a entry level bike for this price and a butt ugly one to boot. By the way one of my two bikes is a BMW GS. I still think it is butt ugly but having ridden my friends 1100 many times I realized what great motorcycles the GSs are. The suspension is so forgiving an idiot can ride one. However, I shopped around and bought a practically brand new one for $9950. If someone wants a beginner commuter there are many alternatives. Why does a bike have to be sooo ugly?

You can't honestly like the styling on the bike in this article? I own an R1150GS and it is butt ugly. But this 650 is double butt ugly.

Default Re: No, THIS is BMW's latest creation...

I own 2 RT's, an 80 and an 1100. I consider them to be the finest

touring machines on the market. BMW's are supposed to be function before form, not functional and bizarre.

The new bagger, the K12LT, the F650 CS all are stupid looking machines that just DONT make you jsut want to sit in your driveway staring at your bike.... The GS's are so prett and polished up I wouldnt want to take them in the dirt, theyre too heave to be dirtbikes, and too fragile to drop. BMW what the heck are you doing. Go back to making GREAT MOTORCYLES

instead of strange-styling before function bikes.......

Very nicely said but you left out the part about uglier than an ugly butt.
