Speaking of... What's the latest word on the uber-beautiful Blue Marlin? *THAT* bike gives me a serious chubby.

Default Road Kill Black

Flat black is fine on a 1979 Honda CB650 with a matching milk crate bungeed to the electrician's tape seat. I just don't understand flat (well matte) black on a new bike, especially an expensive one. Ah, well, they are Itallian, and I am not. I still think it is ugly and detracts from the bike. At least they didn't do the so-ugly-that-a-roach-wouldn't-crawl-on-it gray/black color that Ducati has.

OK...here's my recommendation to the Japanese manufacturer's:

Honda - Naked V-Twin with RC51 spec engine

Suzuki - SV1000

Yamaha - Bring the Bulldog over

Kawasaki - Get in the game!

Good review with a reasonable amount of detail.

Now this is the kind of thing I've been talking about. A full-on, lightweight, not-detuned sportbike with more humane ergos. I don't care if it's got 2, 3 or 4 cylinders, or in what configuration. The TL1000S and SuperHawk came close to being in the ball park, but were saddled with overly agressive ergos and in the case of the Honda, too limited fuel capacity. The FZ-1 is a nice enough bike, but it's not an R1 in terms of power, weight or suspension.

The only thing about this bike I don't like is the minimal wind protection. Seems to me that for these bikes to really be useful in the real world, more expansive wind protection for the upper body, not less, is what is needed. That might look like crap, though.

Of course, I don't know how big the market would be for this hypothetical bike.

No, this is _Not_ what we've been waiting for all along. What we've been waiting for is not a bike with aritfically swoopy plastic/carbon blob-fest design. Whatever happened to the beauty of elegant, form-follows-function design? This thing might as well have a full-fairing with cutouts to show the frame, it's got so many bulbous plastic covers bolted on, chiefly to hide inelegant "where do we put it" solutions.

What we've been waiting for is a freaking BlueMarlin - show me the durn BlueMarlin - we want the BlueMarlin!

Now _that's_ a naked bike - pure lines, no goldfish-styled bulbous anything, no screens bolted in place to hide ugly coolant resivoir placement - just pure, clean lines.
