Yeah, but they cost $2500 less than modern inline fours and are far better suited to real-world, all-around riding. Tradeoffs...

More seriously, though, the Brit mags seem to LOVE the Fazer 600. It's more expensive than the SV, but it's the only midsized sport-standard that doesn't get romped by that little twin. I think Yamaha should see if an FZ6 does well here--the FZ1 sure got a following.

Let's hope that Yamaha get the sales they deserve for this kind of effort. I was going to move up to a used V-Max (from my XZ550), but now may be going a bit further. I could see this bike doing 600 miles a day on the highway. One would hardly need the gear shift but once or twice a day....

Let's see if they can get the "Bulldog" out of Europe as well.

The Bulldog is, by broad consensus, an overstyled underpowered lump for poseurs who are afraid of Ducati Monsters. I (and possibly a lot of the rest of the market) would much rather have a Fazer/FZ-6, even if it means dealing with that beaky fairing I don't particularly like.

and to add to that, no expensive ass plastic to replace. Well, maybe just a little. I have seen an anything goes race as long as it's a stock engine and the sv650 that won the race had a GSXR front end. It was nice. Helped that the guy racing it was only 125lbs.

Sorry to barrage you with 10,000 posts...

Maybe Yamaha is ignoring the middleweight sport-standard market because of the YZF600R, probably the best real-world 600cc supersport out there. Not really the same category as the SV, but certainly with the SVS.

A half-fairing YZF would be nice; usable everyday, still more than fast enough, and closer in price to the SV-S. Cheap to do, too, and it would help get the model out from the shadow of the R6.

If Yamaha sells the FJR to every person that has posted a positive message saying they will buy one, it's a safe guess that it would barely make a dent in the number of sold FJR's that Yamaha would consider a success in terms of sale numbers. In a year of the new ST1300 and various other extremly refined bikes (2003) I would hope they do sell a ton and have no regrets.

600 miles on the highway makes me shudder on any motorcycle! Now, blasting the full length of the Blue Ridge Parkway in opulent comfort at supralegal speeds I'm down with!
