Default Re: Ducati Monster 620 i.e. Reader Feedback

I took the California motorcycle safety class last may, but I've still yet to get a bike since I bought a house for me and my fiance. The wedding's in June, so I've been brooding over several bikes over the past year. I've been totally happy with MO's help in making my decision over which first bike to buy.

Here is the list of bikes I've been considering:

Honda 919 (Cool, but not enough attitude)

Honda cbr 600f4i (too much boy-racer attitude)

Ducati Monster 750 or 620 (Cool and with attitude--it's not a squid rocket).

I was afraid that the 620 would be too targeted at women (given a shorter ride height that i've heard about), but after reading MO's test and Foxy's (female?) input, i'm seriously considering the 620.

Default Re: 53.3 ft-lbs?

I thought that 53.3 ft-lb sounded a little high for the size of the engine (and the price).

Looks like the SV650 is still out ahead. I predict that it will beat the Duc in a comparo, especially with a lower MSRP.

Default Re: Correction!!!

Maybe you need a couple proof readers!

While we're mincing: In the 2nd to last paragraph, 1st sentence, you're missing an end paren ")". In the next sentence, you use the word "power" three times. This sounds a little clunky if you read it out loud.

So now that I've insulted your writing style, wanna hire me too? I'll ride all the bikes that SuperSquid doesn't get to!

Default Monster, FXDX, YZF, oh my!

If only I could justify having a sporty bike, a cruiser, a tourer, and a dirk bike. Instead, I need the all in one.

Priority #1, weekend fun.

Priority #2, transportation to work (gotta pay for the bike some how).

Default Comparison Guest Tester

::Raising Hand::

Uh MR. Brent... I have an SV-650S that I use for both racing and for commuting (about a 30min conversion between racer / commuter) I'd be happy to lend my bike for comparison with a modified Monster, as long as I can be a guest tester on this comparo.

A well-performing, pulchritudinous, entry-level Monster priced within reach of the lowly plebian... what a splendid idea.

But what of the plebianistic neophyte upon facing $400-600 tune-up's courtesy of desmodromics?

Perhaps Ducati should contemplate employing valve springs on the machines not intended for well-to-do racers or their street counterparts. If they want to keep these fledgling fanatics loyal to the marque, that is.

Foggy interview was great! He's got more personality than most of 'em, plus he's a winner, so his opinion counts for lots. I'd read any interview with any top rider from any country.

Monster 620 sounds tempting, despite the excessive reciprocating mass. Try and use smaller words guys. If you're tempted, use a picture instead.

On the price list Ducati was handing out at the MC show in Chicago this past weekend, it lists the first service at 3.5 hours and the 6,000 mile service at 5-6 hours for the 620i.e.

How do you judge that you've made a loss on a story?
