I'm not "OK" with it but the fact remains the Buell is a very innovative and competitive bike for real world riding. 160 HP sportbikes are massively overpowered for the street to the point where it's little more than ego. No one is using that kind of potential for street riding anywhere near 50% let alone 100%

I don't think Buell will ever go head to head with the Japanese (look what happened when Triumph tried that), but I think they are definitely capable of producing a world class sportbike. I was surprised to learn they are developing an off-road bike, since I thought they would be putting all their R&D effort into the next-gen Buell sportbike. Hopefully they have a new powerplant in development to replace the XL mill.

Aside from your misconceptions about unions I actually agree with you. In a capitolist society why shouldn't the skilled men and women actually building the products that produce the capitol recieve a portion of that capitol back in the form of a living wage and benifits?

Without union won workers rights like a 40 hour work week and overtime, vacation and medical insurance we are reduced to the level of third world workers, totally exploited, paid barely enough to survive on, exposed to chemical health hazards and dangerous working conditions then cast aside when we can no longer produce. Is that the world you want to live in?

Before you go slamming unions, read a little bit of history about the industrial revolution and the inhumane working conditions that gave rise to trade unionism in the first place. The comfortable middleclass existance you now enjoy was bought and paid for by the very unions you so quickly dismiss. Without unions now we would be working for gulf state wages while the fat cats get richer.

The problem in America isn't trade unions it's the people who think they're better off going cowboy than working together toward a common goal. Look at our reletive positions, you are a salaried engineer with no representation, I'm a union hourly worker with full representation, I've had a six figure income for the last ten years, have you?

Default Time to get this party started... i.e. HD sucks cause they won't fund Buell

The GPTB led by longride (kbully), Buzglyd (kjester), and seruzaWa (kwrong) are just plain wrong. The GPTB will say that making a U.S. sportbike is losing a proposition.. I say B.S. making a race replica inline 4 is a losing proposition as Triumph proved but making a sportbike with modern components is not ... If the Buell had decent modern V-Twin it would be the best selling bike in the country. Buz says that HD and Buell would have invest large sums of money... Let look at some examples of small companies that routinely produce modern twins without going bankrupt.;

[*] Tiny Aprilia releases the SL750 Shiver, SL750 Shiver Sport and SL750 Motard. Based on a modern V-Twin.

[*]Small company Ducati makes new 1098 V-Twin

[*] KTM makes new V-Twin engine.

[*]Unheard of Wakan 1640 - New French V-Twin Motorcycle

[*]New V-twin diesel engine from Yanmar

[i]

kpaul sez

Harley is too short sighted to give the Buell a proper engine and thus losing a prime opportunity to sell thousands of more bikes..

Oh noes! Not pushrods! Guess what though: 100hp is more than adequate for street riding, the torque makes gear selection easy, the hydraulic valves require no maintenance, and parts are dirt cheap and often what you need for any roadside repair can be found at an auto parts store.

But, but, but... It's got PUSHRODS!

But Alabama is a non- union, right- to- work state how could they be having trouble keeping skilled works there? Without those ghastly unions ruining everything there should be 100% employment and people standing in line for the many new jobs being created by thoughtful and caring businessmen?

Am I missing something here?
