Why does Harley have ABS? I thought the best way to slow down with one of those was to deploy the engine as an arrestor hook / boat anchor.

Haw haw! I kill me! The jokes; it's like they write themselves...

Just wait and get a Can-Am Spyder. ABS, stability control, traction control, and a 990cc Rotax (basically the same as the Aprilia)! The perfect commuter.

I REALLY want to ride that Honda with overgrown training wheels in a wet parking lot. Way more cool than Automatic Boring and Safe.

Funny thing is the police bikes here in CA come with the ABS and I never hear one word about how they work in any review. Ditto on the run-flat tires. (no kidding)

Is abs too sissy for HD to market to "real" bikers?

I think ABS is really for the times when you are suddenly surprised (it can happen to all of us), and/or have to brake to the maximum on a surface with unknown traction e.g. wet, sandy.

I've beaten the ABS system in cars on wet asphalt i.e. stopped shorter (with the ABS fuse removed) - but only under controlled conditions and with some practice. It was that which convinced me of the value of ABS in real world situations. It'll stop me if I just grab the anchors as hard as I can. I cant stop that fast (in poor grip conditions) on a normal ride.

We CANT be hypervigilant at all times, know when we'll need to brake etc.

Remember that our concentration is on many things - not just on how to get the shortest braking distance at all times.

I like ABS particularly for wet weather, and will get it on my next bike.

Come on, we all know the best and safest way to stop a Harley is to lay 'er down!

Only if I can choose when I want ABS. I'd probably use it just running around but would want to be able to easily disable it at certain times/situations, same for the linking of the brakes. If it's not set-up to be easily disconnected, I'd prefer straight brakes.
