Exxon/Mobil is a public company so all you have to do to get in on the gouging is to buy some stock.

Well remember it's the gov that puts a lot of places off limits to oil exploration. We could reduce our dependence on foreign oil by producing a lot more of our own.

The ecos won't let us have nuclear power either which would further reduce our oil appetite.

Default Excellent Point

Great point. In a masters econ class we did a case study on the oil market in the U.S. Both the horizontal and vertical make up of the market has decreased the competitive nature and openness of the energy market since the 90s i.e Clinton administration (mergers basically to blame). i.e a few retailers, a few refiners, a few distributors, a very few suppliers.. not good for the consumer. Also the cost at the pump doesn't reflect the true cost i.e. protecting the oil. etc. Time to break up the industry again..

Same with most other companies that do shady stuff. That doesn't mean it's a good thing.

I completely agree with you. I think more nuclear and more domestic oil are both fine plans.

They were all Democrats before they decided that the Democrats were too wussy to go attack the ME. And then they switched and somehow convinced the republicans that throwing money and soldiers into the desert is a good idea. Bunch of powerful fools managed to make suckers out of everyone.

The only folks able to control a unified ME since Alexander the Great have been the Turks, and even they want nothing to do with the place anymore.

I'd love to chat about this over a beer with you. However, it's best to end this non-motorcycle topic now before idiot starts his tyrannical link posting.

All true. As soon as we went to war the price actually jumped with speculation that it would destabilize the region and threaten 'our' resources in Saudi Arabia.

Keep talking sense like that and I'll have to stop calling you a dirty commie hippie.

How about "otherwise intelligent dirty commie hippie"?
