I'm 6'6, with a 36 inseam and the weestrom is spacious in comparison to just about anything out there.

Vespa LX50?

Really....the KLR is a great suggestion. As an MSF instructor, a "big guy" asked me about bikes for him. He didn't realize that dual sports existed and went to check them out. Had to drop my KLR an inch to get my feet on the ground, but hated losing the suspension travel. If style and speed aren't concerns, but fun is, then the KLR would be hard to beat. I ride the "poor man's GS adventure" with a smile everyday. The other bikes tend to gather dust.

Yeah, but the bottom line is a DL650 (Wee Strom) or KLR650 are the two bikes in his price range (and the DL only if he's lucky) that will fit anyone with an inseam over 34" comfortably, plus they are a manageable weight for a newbie of his heft. The DL probably has too much power, but if he's mature he can probably manage it. I doubt that at 6'5" the guy's inseam is less than 32" - its more like around 34" or more, unless he suffers from Duck's disease. Hell I'm 6' and my inseam is 35".

So yeah, not really in the guys price range, unless he buys a salvage title and pieces it back together with stolen parts.

What about a Yamaha Seca II? They're near bulletproof, have the look/feel of a full sized bike but is still very forgiving and easy to ride. Still easy to find, and they're always cheap. This was my first bike and it was perfect for the task. I'm not nearly as big, but I think it would work...

Or a ZX-14.
