Re: Carbon Fibre

I thought that surely someone would say something to the effect of "You have a Harley - no carbon footprint: just a puddle of oil everywhere you park it..................."

(GIIIIIVE back to the Earth!)

"Hi there. E85 has a very high octane. If someone took the trouble to set an engine up for it properly, it can make more HP. An engine that would normally run 9.5 CR, on premium, could probably run 11CR, with E85. So, don't totally knock it, make use of it............"

(snipped for brevity)

Mind, I'm not bustin' yer nuts here - but to "power" that extra HP, exactly what is it you think you'll have to do?

Octane doesn't make more power all by itself - it merely resists detonation so you can run a higher cylinder-pressure without (maybe) destroying the engine - whether through higher-compression, more advance, boost, or combinations of same.

To actually realize that power takes FUEL - i.e. more of it. You already have to use 30-35% more E85 to merely make the SAME HP as you can on 87-octane petrol.

Nothing is free - you MUST put something in to get something out.

I'm just sick of this particular flavor, it's been too long.

Actually, the ethanol market has done this (allegedly). Currently the price of corn in Mexico is priced so high, many families cannot afford to buy tortillas. The poorer people are literally starving.

Personally, I think the whole thing is being overplayed, but I could be wrong.
