Dang, which one of us is going to call them up and tell them those decades of research was wasted, it won't work? I feel bad for them.

Well people are overypaying for a Prius so nothing would surprise me.

Honda's current hybrids have been flops by the way. They look like normal cars so they don't project a "green" image.

Remember, people don't buy products. They buy the way the products make them feel.

what is that prius? "hybrid synerygy drive"? whatever that means they are selling the crap out of them, 2 people in my little office drive and love them. How far we have to delve into MO archives to find GPTB saying "it will never work"?

I agree they are selling the crap out of them. They are everywhere in my neighborhood because they're a fashion statement.

Hondas hybrids don't sell cuz they look like normal cars.

If you compare a Prius to a Corolla, you have to drive it something like 160,000 miles before the gas savings pays for the difference in cost.

I can guarantee you the yuppies in my 'hood won't keep 'em that long.

We can drop global tempurature by injecting SO2 into the stratosphere, which allows to burn the rest of the petroleum in the ground.

I had a flashback to '92 when I heard a guy say he wouldn't pay over sticker for a Harley and soon enough all the rubs will be selling their bikes and he'll pick one up for cheap. He's still waiting for Harley crash.

Default Bravo Honda

There are several things I admire about Japanese companies, especially Honda and Toyota:

[*]The ability to think long-term
[*]For the most part Japan's companies are ran by people with technical backgrounds with business training, unlike the American Harvard MBA thing. i.e. a Japanese executive may have an MBA but he most likely has an undergrad degree in engineering or science
[*]The willingness to take risks but also the foresight to hedge their bets (hydrogen vs biofuels/ethanol/biodiesel)
[*]The initiative to solve engineering problems outside their domanin i.e. the home distribution natural gas to hydrogen conversion thing.
[*]Japanese CEOs don't get paid a million times what their average employee make

Default Facts and Data i.e. The problem with hybrids

Yep you beat me to it JB. I love how Buz thinks gasoline is going to stay at $2.50 a gallon after the election. However, Buz does make a good point about hybrids even if gas hits $4.00 per gallon..

At $2.50 a gal a gas Hybrids will make sense (over 5 years, assuming 12,000 miles per year and the hybrid is 57 % more efficient)* if it only costs $1500 more than normal vechicle. At $4.00 a gal the hybrid will make sense if it costs $2,400 more. so yeah hybrids really are about feeling good about the enviroment thing.

* Assume Toyota Prius vs. toyota Yaris
