Past generations of motorcyclists found themselves thoroughly penetrated by Amal. You whippersnappers don't know what you're missing.

And either Mercedes or Auto Union (or both) had Desmo heads in the early 30's. B. Rosemeyer lives!

For once dx was onto something. Somebody euro - perhaps "pigout" had DOHC motors in the 1910's.

I won't mention the Cyclone Board Track motor.

By 1944, our big long range bombers were compound supercharged - ie, turbo and super on same motor. It took some serious slide rule time to git them thar piston jobs to 30,000 feet.

Now lets all sing Randy Newman's great song, "Lets Drop the Big One Now". After all, its coming soon enough.

That might be true. There was one Engineman3 from Georgia who manged to get picked up for 3 DUIs in less than 90 days. That's probably some kind of record. The day I got discharged he was picked up for his third drunk driving rap after he had just spent 60 days of annual military leave in county jail for his second DUI.

I can't seem to remember his name......it's been a long time......mscuddy?.... sarnali?.....sorta rings a bell.....

Um. No it didn't.

I turned in R Newman's "Poiltical Science" for a history paper in 11th grade. Got an A.

Actually the V16 6 liter motor of the Auto Union type C (before the formula changed in 193 had a single camshaft for each bank of cylinders with very short pushrods (like the Mercedes NASCAR IMOR motor). Used conventional conical wound valve springs. It had very low turning speeds like an aircraft engine. Was undersquare with a 75 x 85 mm bore/stroke ratio. The motor could induce wheelspin at 150 mph.

The W125 Mercedes was a Desmo, a blown straight 8. Mercedes also used a desmo setup in the 300SLR.

BMW motorcycles use the same thing today, called "cam in head" I think...
