Re: Why Don't You Ride Your Bike to Work?

Have boring insurance job in middle of city that I need to wear a suit to and not be crumpled, dirty, and smelling of exhaust fumes.

I take the commuter train.

Also, I DO have to go to a remote location about 100 excellent riding miles away about every week. That office is business casual. They built a concrete motorcycle-specific parking area right by the door. However our company policy is explicit that you are not allowed to use motorcycles on company business. Since I'm travelling to a remote office, I am accumulating business miles. If I wreck, it's Worker's Comp apparently.

However, i do it anyway so maybe someday I won't have this insurance job in the middle of the city.

Associating work with bikes

You may not want to associate your work with your motorcycle, but it might have the opposite effect: instead of hating your motorcycle because you associate it with going to work, maybe you'll enjoy going to work more because that's quality time with your motorcycle.

I know that's how I feel. My favorite part of the day, often as not, is riding to work in the morning. (Riding home is cool too but I like the morning light and traffic pattern.)

I do ride it to work, every day!!

I do ride it to work, every day!! 23,000 commuting miles on an 04 XB12S in 2 years and about 9,000 miles on a 04 Gold Wing. I alternate each week.

How far away are you? 100 miles?

Parking costs $11

I ride my bicycle, and when I don't ride my bicycle, I ride my 50cc scooter.

Why? Parking for bikes and scooters is free. Parking for motorcycles is $11/day.

Better hope your wife doesn't see that post.

Re: Why Don't You Ride Your Bike to Work?

I ride to work about 50% of the time. When I don't, it's usually because it's my turn to pick up the kids, or it's raining, or I have to carry too much stuff. A clarification on the rain: I really don't mind riding in it, but my ride to work is less than 10 minutes and it takes longer than that to get into the rain gear! Not worth the hassle. They let me park on the sidewalk right in front of the front door.

Getting a motorcycle up my stairs to my office is a real pain.

I ride to the gym though!

I haven't driven my car to work in over ten weeks. I have to pick up a load of lumber tomorrow though, so that ends my streak I guess. Start all over again on Ride-to-Work Day.
