Default How politics works

The Michican legislature is GOP dominated and has been for a long time. They have been totally impervious to the helmet law repeal, until now. Every year the ABATE people would rally and some bill would float around a commitee and die there. Suddenly last week this repeal took wing and landed on the Governor's desk.

Not coincedently her opponent, one **** DeVos, billionare son of an Amway cofounder said he would sign it. Now DeVos doesn't give a ***** about all this but he does want to get elected. It is a beauifull issue because the average voter will never base their vote on this issue yet virtually every biker type will.

Mr DeVos is one big step closer to becomming governor of this sadly sinking state. Why he wants the job I can't imagine. It isn't like it will get him into heaven. He is pretty much guaranteed a spot there anyway since the Calvinist 'Elect' are assumed to be the richest. A guy like him should be in the Senate. Well anyway I'm sure he will be cutting his own taxes big time and with a family fortune upward of $25 billion there is a lot to cut.

Someday soon most health insurance policies will not cover injuries suffered during dangerous activities. Motorcycling will be first on the list. I anticipate $1000 dollar a year or more supplimental catastrofic plans will become mandatory and expect them to have multi thousand dollar deductables. The repeal of helmet laws brings us one step closer to that day.

By the way. Employer based health insurance is opposed by Mr. DeVos, in principal, as it is for the entire GOP leadership. Vote for em if you like.

"For anyone who cries about socialism. you should pay for yor health benefits, education, and retirement, all out of your own pocket. "

Because the money that pays for those things gushes out of the Benevolent Golden Money Fountain in Washington, DC.

Oh, and those boxes called "FICA" and "Federal W/H" and "State W/H" on your W-2 that make your paycheck smaller? Don't pay those any mind. It's got nothing to do with you. Now behave and be grateful, prole.

Jeezus, that has to be the stupidest post I've ever seen by someone who's not kpaul or yeo or dingaling.

Hey, genius, that motorcycle you're riding is inherently dangerous - far more dangerous than the differecne between helmeted and unhelmeted riding. So follow your own brilliant paternalist philosophy and stop riding it. Or STFU.

By me, too. Under guise of doing something good for us, our employers have ruined health care in this country by masking the costs and limiting our choices. Give us all the money that they claim to be spending on our health care programs, and let us buy our own health care. Businesses have lately come round in a small way to this idea, with the goal of lowering their costs, by "giving us" Health Savings Accounts (HSA).

"Of course the social cost associated with head injury is not addressed by them."

OK, Einstein, put on your thinking helmet:

What is the social cost difference between riding with a helmet, and riding without a helmet?

Now, what is the social cost difference between riding with a helmet, and not riding at all?

I'll give you a hint - riding with a helmet reduces the chance of injury or death. Not riding at all ELIMINATES it - and motorcycle riding is something like 30 times more dangerous on a per-mile basis than cars.

So, by your own logic, the social-cost argument is far stronger for banning motorcycle riding than for merely requiring helmets. So why do you support the far less effective measure?

The race doesn't air until tomorrow, so how about shutting the f*** up about the results?

Jesus Christ, how many times does this have to be said?

Sorry, kn, but there are a whole bunch of people who have decided that "free" health care is a "right." Where they got this notion is beyond me, but eventually it will result in socialized medicine in the US, so the more successful Canadians will have nowhere to go for top-notch treatment.

Blah Blah Blah ....well reasoned...blah blah blah.

I apologize to the gentle folk out there for not editing or fleshing my comment out better. i was pointing out that socialism had nothing to do with helmet laws, and socialist policies ameliorate some of the worst aspects of pure capitalist systems where the market is not able to adequately provide certain types of services or goods, such as health care. roads, education, etc.

Rather than make a well reasoned counter argument, this moron has to call me stupid, and insult me publicly for having the temerity of making a comment that did't jibe with his reality.

When did American's become so intolerant of speech, and different opinions. Is this just the nature of the internet. You can hide behind your little screen in the dark, and insult someone with impunity. Would you be this rude to your friends, families, coworkers, or just a guy working at the grocery store?

All i said was that helmets laws were not socialist policy. I also should have written more clearly on the necessary role of some elements of socialist policies in a modern market based economy.

I am just stunned by the lack of manners and rudeness. It is inexcusable, and you should be ashamed of your behavior. What would your parents think?

Sure, you have a point. But now I've been tipped off to tape it instead of missing it entirely in favor of a Sunday afternoon ride...
