It would be cool if whoever moderated this as "incorrect" would point out which part is "incorrect". To do otherwise is chickensh!t.

Is he the one who moderated my post above as "incorrect" without saying what was "incorrect" about it? If so, "dunce" is the least of his problems.

But hey, kpaul finds him very insightful!

Just got back from a trip to italy, diesel cars were all over the place, I rented an audi diesel, no more noise, smell, or lack of power compared to the same gas version here, and pulled down close to 50 mpg, almost every car and truck avail here has a clean burning diesel version there and across europe.

Totally bogus statistic with no basis in fact. "The world's energy resources" is not a finite amount. New sources can and will be produced.

Go back to your Earth First! magazine and find us some more "facts."

You really don't have to index anything to understand that gas prices are higher and having an impact. Look at it this way. People nowadays are live at or beyond their means. Today the average consumer debt is $8000. When you have no slack in your income, as people did years ago (no one had credit cards int he 60's, and the only debt you had was a mortgage), when gas pricves go up 50%, that impacts the bottom line immediately, no matter what anyone says.

Default Econ 101

Econ 101 pal Deficit spending causes higher interest rates or inflation (choose your poison).... Then it causes a lower dollar which causes oil producers to demand more dollars cause the dollar is worth less... Bush's undisplined fiscal policy i.e Reaganomics has contributed to higher oil prices. Don't believe me look up Fox boy...

Seriously. If the average person responds to gas price increases with more walking/bicycling and fewer food purchases, the resulting weight loss and reduction in health expenses will make it a net economic benefit.

I work for the government, and about half of our on-base fleet is electric powered. While they do conserve petro-based fuel, at least at the vehicle, they are not in any way ready for use off-base or on highways.

Many of our larger vehicles (pickups, etc.) are powered by LPG. Not sure what the implications of these are.

I didn't do the original moderation, but I put it back for you. You are welcome.

You are, of course, correct. The legions of singl-passenger SUV's I see everyday tell me that.
