"Another $1.00 rise in price/gallon will have a devestating short term effect on the economy"

Yeah, like the "devastating" effect the rise from $1.00 to $2.00 caused. Or the rise from $2.00 to $3.00.

Tip for you, kpaul. Instead of wasting time on theory and predictions, why not just look back at history and precedent. Tends to be more reliable.

You might be right and that was thirty years ago... I am from Western Colorado where most of the U.S. oil shale is found... If I remember my high school term paper correctly... Oil shale takes alot of energy to mine it, crush it, heat it. etc... The only way to effectively mine it is to strip mine it... There are two I think abandoned demostration facilities in Rio Blanco Count Colorado.. I used to fight fires near them..It kind of the same argument against hydrogen.Takes to much energy and eco damage to make it.. Biodiesel is starting look pretty good now...

Good point.

I'm 23 and started subscribing to cycle world and motorcyclist when I was 13, and one thing I've noticed in that time is motorcycle milage getting WORSE, not better, particularly with sportbikes and the advent of fuel injection, suprisingly. Basically, milage was always over 40, and in the 30's was rare, now it is rare for even 600s to get into the 40's. Bikes make more power for sure, but car manufacturers over the last decade have increased power even more while increasing or maintaining milage, probably because it is a main focus.

FZR600, 38-40 city driving around to classes,etc., 45-52 highway.
