I saw Evel jump successfully at Seattle International Raceway in 1970, I think. Yikes, almost 36 years ago. Everybody expected him to crash like usual, but he pulled it off. He had to be helped off his bike.

Between Evel, Steve McQueen, Ponch and John (sometimes), my fate was pretty much sealed. Kudos to the first two for living life to the fullest. Gives credit to the phrase of wanting to be shot out of a cannon instead of being sqeezed out of a tube.

Ride on Evel & enjoy the morphine pump when it drips.

Default Best line ever

In an interview on Jim Rome's show, Rome (who admits to having an Evel Knievel lunchbox) and Evel were discussing the Snake River Canyon jump.

Rome: "What do you think were your chances of making that jump?"

Evel: "About 50/50."

Rome: "Then why would you do it?"

Evel: "Don't you know who the hell I am?"

That was a typical response from him on the night in my 'memoir' above. Appears to be classic Evel.--Pete

I don't remember which jump it was (Although I think it was before Snake River)...

He crash landed, he gets helped to his feet , walked assisted to the bottom of the landing ramp and said :"This is the last ride of Evel Knievel." or something to that effect.

He was banged up pretty bad.

Quite a guy all right, the artical mentions other people out doing him these days. What it doesn't mention is that he did it on a 350 lb XR 750 with 4 inches of suspension travel, not a 220 lb dirt bike with 12 inches.

The guys an Original.
