Business as usual here. Alderman going to jail, ex- Gov's in criminal investigations, Daley laying low with the FBI now looking at what is going on here. I love this place!

"People with low standards of personal ethics don't pay atttention to laws and, frankly, aren't able to even see the consequences of unethical behavior. Passing laws to regulate them only allows you to punish them after the fact."

I'm OK with that. I like punishing the stupid and evil.

Those morally superior, more intelligent Blue Staters strike again!

Like that a$$hole who destroyed my $10,000 pan-off restored 1967 VW Beetle with the 145 hp 1917cc motor a couple years back? Hit me right on the crankshaft nut at about 50 mph when I was stopped in traffic.

He wasn't insured and just walked away. The cops were going to arrest me for harassment since he ignored all requests to make it right.

Sorry, I have't gotten over it yet...

I would split your second group into two groups. Unethical people who are intelligent and unethical people who are stupid.

The intelligent ones still follow most laws because they understand the penalties and are smart enough to know that they will likely get caught. The dumb ones can't see far enough in the future to see consequences and all you can do is punish them after the fact because they won't follow the law, anyway.

How about enforced sterilization? Show that you are an inattentive boob without any social conscience often enough and away goes your right to procreate. Any kids you have go to the state labour pool making highways.

Breed stupidity out.

I have one car that is like a bike - headlights on all the time - and two others that are the old style. Sometimes you just forget when you switch back and forth. It is also easy to do when it's raining at night or when fog comes and goes on a longer drive. I believe that's why they call them accidents. Remember that the next time you do something boneheaded. Don't come running to me for pity. That'll be $500 bucks and no excuses.

Restitution is such a joke, I had my 72 240Z lifted over a decade ago, which we caught the guy and he was ordered to pay after a year in the clink (probably ended up 45 days or something stupid like that). I called the probation officer for 6 years, never once actually talking to the individual or getting a call back, nor seeing one dime.

As for your uninsured comment my little town is 40% Hispanic, of which nearly that ratio drives well under the speed limit. No ticket, no accident, no free ride to Mexico...
