"Here in highly educated, high income, high tech, blue state Seattle"

It's that "Screw you, red-state NASCAR Christian retarded hicks" attitude that wins liberals so many elections. Keep it comin', Einstein.

under Bush the debt increased about $15,000 per taxpayer from about 67% debt to GDP ratio versus what is a more normal 55% debt to GDP. (We all owe about $90,000 per taxpayer).

Debt's a good thing. You don't want national debt to drop much below 50% of GDP or you stifle growth. If it gets too high there is too much pressure on interest rates.

Part of the reason for the run up in debt is that we're still working through all the negative capital gains when the tech bubble burst in 2001. The other part is Bush's tax cut and drop of the long term capital gains tax rate to 15%. His father raised it to 28%. Clinton lowered it to 20%. Bush's war only costs about 1.5% of the federal budget, which is why some in Congress want to increase troop levels and spending.

Economically, our biggest problem is China and interest rates. Separate issues to some extent. The fight over tax cuts is mostly about fairness - they greatly favor the rich. Rich people don't plow as much money back into the economy as poor people, so they are actually a drag on the economy.

But, overall I think Bush expects we will grow out of the high debt and that it is important to maintain the tax cuts. I think he also is concerned about balance of trade and the value of the dollar relative to other currencies to keep the flow of capital coming in to the U.S.

I can't stand Bush. But, I'd have to agree he is probably on the right track - but then, I still have my job.

The Republicans couldn't drag their tired asses to the polls, either. They had some guy in a dark room electronically send in a large portion of them, it seems, and only in those key swing states, too.

Diebold *still* won't open their voting machine software to public perusal and is pulling out of states where legislation demanding this openness has been enacted. Deibold employees are coming clean, too, about being specifically told to leave known security holes open until after the election. Something is definitely rotten in Denmark.

You're just a wee bit too fixated on homoeroticism for my taste. You know what they say ...
