This has been an eye opener for me as well.

The fact that I'm not the only one who see the situation this way does give me some solace.

luckily for us it apears that wheelie riding is still safe, it was the whole crashing into an suv thing that got him

sounds like he could have eluded the "BICYCLE COP" with a blazing 30mph after his wheelie. The wheelie thing is not what killed him. this kid blasted right broadside into an suv, a manuever designed to be fatal at speeds far less than the ton. subtract the words wheelie, 100mph and the infrence of disrespectfull sportbike riding squid and all you have is another biker that someone turned left in front of. had this been a 40 year old no front brake chopper riding skid lid wearing hells angel going 35 and dying, there would be a lynch mob out looking for the hapless suv driver. not to say at all this kid was not at fault, just making a point that people treat very similar accidents very diferently based on who they hapen to.

I guess I have a soft spot for the whole situation, when I first started driving I made a bad lefthand turn and got smacked by a buick, luckily no one was hurt, but at speeds of 30 mph I never saw the car. I am really glad it was not a motorcyclist.

my 14 yr old bro on his honda crf150 with it's whopping 12hp could ride wheelies at speeds exceeding 30 mph, what he could not do was accelerate to 100 mph in a quarter mile. (and a ninja 250 is perfectly capable of riding a wheelie once you disable the roll over switch.) the only thing safer about a small cc bike is it's relative inability to accelerate.

You're NOT the only one. I had a crash, my fault, when I was a lot younger, and stupider, than now. Obviously I survived, and learned a valuable lesson. This poor bastard didn't. And now, all these cool bikers (or riders, whichever you prefer), pound their chests, and come up with all of this clever (and don't forget "original") crap like, "Darwin in action", "he deserved it", and of course the ever popular "I NEVER speed on the public roads, I'm perfect, so F* him"

What a load of horsesh!t. But I guess I ought to be honored to be in the presence of so many law-abiding, highly skilled, perfectly road mannered riders.

Yeah, like fock.
