Do not buy this bike! First, they only made the Magnas until 1986, that was the last year, period, something is fishy.

They had a horrible track record for blowing second gear, and contrary to someone's comment, there are no more tranny parts made by Honda available from Honda of North America! One of their service reps tols me to look in the local junk yards!!! And you know what? They were out too. My costumer is out there skipping second gear day in and day out.

how is it that no one has told this guy to get an sv650 yet? it's certainly a better bet than a bike that doesn't exist, and for 3k he can get a perfectly functional 99-02 model.

yeah, it's not a beginner bike in the truest sense, but i don't think anyone's gonna talk this guy into a ninja 250 at this point.

I had an 84 V65 Saber and I think you're right, 85 was the last year. The cam pitting was only on early 750's AFAIK after that they changed the oil galleries to get more flow to the head.

The only problem I had with it was the regulator/rectifier cooking which was common on '84 Goldwings and the Saber/Magna models, and the temperature gage acting up giving false high readings other than that it was a pretty fun bike

$2k for a rusty bike? You are probably better off with a brand new scooter for that price or even a Honda Rebel for an addtl. $1k.

Warning. No V65 made in 89. Only 83-86. A word of caution - high mileage V65 motors burn water - usually no big deal, but a minor leaking head gskt can do serious damage to a deck surface. My V65 magna went 74k before it needed a head gskt, but by the time the engine was repaired I could have put that $2800 overhaul to work on a different bike.

Smaller and newer beats bigger and older everytime for a first time buyer. The SV 650 idea sounds pretty smart to me. There are a couple of 500s that would make good first bikes too. Low maintenance, less tire & chain wear, etc, etc, etc.

P.S Check the insurance. There are sometimes some nasty surprises in store.
