This is obviously a vehicle made for the millitary. A civilian version makes as much sense as a civilian version of a HUMVEE.

I don´t see how this would be too good for military either. Imagine a nip truck full of turban guys with AK-47s overtaking you when you go flat out.

Yep. I think the _only_ thing good about it for the military is that it runs on the same fuel as the rest of the their fleet, so they don't have to provision special fuel (i.e., gasoline) just for the bikes.

Tho actually, I'm sure a diesel KLR can do much more than any of the military bikes of WWII.

As I read it is a KLR 650 modified by HDT to USMC specs, USMC wants all their powered stuff to use the same fuel, kerosene.

Soooo, if you want to be the first fool on the block to have one a these, find a 1989 KLR, olive green paint a paint brush or roller, adjust the valves so they are about 10 thou loose for that diesel rattle, throw a cupful of heating oil into the gas tank so it smokes and smells, and you have saved yourself the best part of 19 K.

I saw a brief blip on discovery or history as a part of some sort of military tech, possibly a modern marvels.. it looked for all intensive purposes a rather utilitarian enduro, handling looked good as one of our finest was pushing it through some sand and other rough terrain, I don't recall any wheelies though..

This was a joint venture development that also involved a group from the UK. Both US and UK governments will use slightly different engine configurations for their military forces. The engine is based on a Kawasaki single cylinder design.

"As a defense contractor, they aren't used to media and don't know how to deal with it, so maybe this will be a wake-up call?" LOL So true MO. I interviewed for a job at Lockheed Marting during the defensed down times after Bush Sr admin. They were trying to market a civilian app based on GPS. Great app lousy marketing killed it.....

Ok I going to say it again.... "Make biodiesel not war"...

I got email from them about this $19,000 bike after visiting their web site a few weeks ago. Right now diesel is about 30 cents more than gas per gallon. I'd wait for one of the major manufacturers to come out with a diesel bike. These low volume guys are always so high priced for folks with no track record on quality.
