"We have a graduated licencing system like this in Canada for cars already and it seems to work well. No night driving, can't have more than x people in the car, must have someone over 18 with you at all times and you can't graduate to the next level unless you are ticket free. It really hammers home that driving is a priviledge, not a right."

WA state now has the same system modeled from the Canadian system. It works really well and has reduced teen accidents.

Education and tougher license standards. Inexperineced people should NOT have a Busa. Crashing better is not the answer.

The idea that it is evolution at work is somewhat true. But if these folks have procreated already thier genes have already been passed on. I to this day do not understand why anyone would ride without a helmet but, if you wish to do so, go faster and try to elimnate yourself earlier. BTW the florida law is not universal, minors are required to wear helmets. The latest was that over 40 percent of folks under 18 were not riding with helmets, perhaps they will manage to become part of the big kill off before they procreate and really improve the gene pool.

It's hardly overblown since the modern era is most noted for the excesses of govts against their own citizens. The cops can walk into your house today and rip it literally apart on the basis of an anonymous phone call. In LA they can take your bike if a cop thinks you might have done a wheelie. If you have more cash on you than a cop thinks you should have he can confiscate it. If you store a can of Raid in a hot, wet space you might go to jail for 5 years. Broadcasters can be fined a million bucks for saying "f%^k" on the air. A child can be taken from his parents because he shows up at school with a bandaid. He gets suspended from school if he has a plastic knife in his backpack to spread butter. She can even be suspended from school for having a keychain with a tiny cast pistol for a fob.

I guess this is all "reasonable" to you, eh?

There will be a quiz afterward.

The key posts are mine of course along with the very intelligent and concise posts of m_t_yeo and Solace. You can ignore all others since they contain false data and incorrect conclusions...

You have 45 minutes starting now...

I think the key posts are any that point out the following:

-Wearing a helmet on a motorcycle is safer than not wearing a helmet

-Not riding a motorcycle is safer than riding a motorcycle

-If you support legislation to save you and others from yourselves by requiring a helmet, then expect legislation to eventually ask for displacement or HP limitations for motorcycles, followed closely by a ban of motorcycles altogether. The costs of helmetless riders/high-HP machines/motorcycles to society are just too large, donchaknow?

Remember that where you draw the line on safety and reasonable risk is most likely different from where everyone else draws the line.

"The idea of a civilized (and very wealthy) nation not accepting the notion of shared risk for

universal medical coverage is disgusting."

And the idea of said nation implementing Canadian-style taxpayer-funded health care is frightening, as evidenced by the number of Canadians who must come to the US for life-saving treatment, and the unconscionable levels of death-by-infection in Montreal hospitals.
