Travis - I repsect your letter but you might want to remember one phrase in this day and age "I wish to speak to my attorney and I do not consent to any search". It's sad our society has come to this. I think the Romans had it right, every couple of years you kill off all the senators, lawyers and start over.

I believe you only work if you are going over a certain speed, like 35mph. I know people who swear by them that have never hit a deer. Beyond that I have no scientific evidence.

Deer are bad enough, up here we have Elk to worry about as well, hitting one of those at speed is like hitting a brick wall.

Amazing that the fear of being sued is so transparent and real.

What a sad way to govern, not from truth but from fear.

Isn't it weird that over half the comments in reply to Pastrana's letter mentioned law suits? Here's a youg, talented racer who's made a major error in judgement, and has the courage to admit his mistake, and rather then compliment him for this courage, they worry about his liability? I know that I am being naive about this, and that this society seems to run on law suits, but it still a shame. I hope tha Travis has learned from this tragedy, and his freind makes a full recovery. They will both be in our prayers.

We've got elk in Utah too, but I've never seen them on the roads. Nor have I heard of anyone hitting them.

At least the hunters keep them thinned out pretty well here. It must be hell in States where the anmal rights nuts have stopped most animal control.

Default you are right ...

sad but true. travis and his friend will either recover or they won't. irrespective of that, travis stands to lose every penny he's made, and a huge chunk of anything he makes in the future, to lawsuits and legal fees.

i hate it as much as you but it's a fact of modern life that anyone with money today has enormous bullseyes painted on their arses. the solution to the problem is simple: we must decide as a society to take responsibility for our own actions and for fate. the hard part is getting congress, which is comprised of lawyers and funded by lawyers, to enact meaningful legislation to get the ball rolling.

i can't say i hate lawyers. there are good ones, and some of them are my friends. but the ambulance chasers, including those who advertise in motorcycle publications, make me physically ill.
