Wow. Sounds neat. Next thing you know, H-D will be selling bikes for what they're worth. Weirder stuff has happened....

Alan Cathcart Predicts Magic Wonder Bike

London (AP) Following a session of sleep-deprived "vision quest", noted motorcycle racer and journalist predicted a "Magic Wonder Bike" from a major motorcycle manufacturer.

"It will be purple and amorphous/this magic swirling beast/pipes a shimmer/lights a glimmer/a great mechanical feast" said the writer from his East London studio.

According to Cathcart, the new motorcycle will be "thousands of feet long, capable of inter-dimensional travel, simultaneously occur in every point of time and space and will be available in red or black at an MSRP of approximately $8999."

Cathcart did not divulge his sources, but denied he made the story up like he usually does.

"In Xanadu did Kubla Khan/ A stately pleasure-dome decree: Where Alph, the sacred river,

ran/ Through caverns measureless to man/ except in quarter mile times, which should be significantly improved over last year's model"

V-4's.... way to go.

.... but a VFR rider would say that.

KPaul you bought that Honda yet or are you hanging out for a Duc now if the missus will let you?

Wonderful. The more bikes in a manufacturer's line-up, the more we have to choose from. ItÂ’s definitely good news for us punters. You never know; Aprilia might follow suit, too.

As for Ducati scrapping the twins? Four cylider kings like Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha all have twins which sell reasonably well. I think there'll be a demand for the two-cylinder sportbike for the foreseeable future. Look for Ducati to expand their range rather than replace it.

After all, who doesn't like twins ;-)

Knowing Ducati I doubt that these V-4s are going to be anywhere near affordable.

Which is why you'll likely still see sport V-twins. They are less expensive to build. As long as people are willling to buy them they'll be with us.

Heh heh. Just remember that anything is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it, no more no less. You may dislike Harleys but they are still worth whatever people are willing to pay for them. Just like any other commodity.

Right now just about every bike except Harleys are worth less than MSRP. Look at all the deals that Ducati, BMW and the big 4 are offering to try to move their 2003 models.

Reminds me of Mark Twain's famous quote - if the sport v-twin is dead, why does Honda still market the VTR1000? Although they must not sell that many of them, because I never see a newer one on the road.

It'll be interesting to see how well the Suzuki SV1000 sells. I think there will be a market for sport v-twins in the near future, though - the torque and the sound are so sweet...

Any bets on how long it will take Ducati to release a service manual for the fours? Enjoy the $1,500 valve adjustments!
