The key to keeping older cast iron Sporty's smooth is to keep on top of the timing/points and carburation, they're actually pretty smooth if you keep 'em dailed in, not like a new bike, but not bad either

Default CRAZY TALKS BACK

I apologize for the all-caps thing, not to steal Gabe's idea, but I just wanted to get everybody's attention.

As far as the whole V-max and Sporty thing goes, you all can forget it. Not that Iwouldn't give my middle nut for a nice one if I had three balls, but I gotta think about insurance, and those stupid companies really start to get greedy the more cc's I tell 'em I have. They also likely have an idea of what a Max can do, so I doubt they'd cut me a deal that I could afford.

As far as sporty's go, I'm sure it's a great bike bike(NOT), but I'm not all that interested in an HD of any kind. For my own reasons, so don't anybody question what they don't know. Thank you.

I suppose I'm still leaning heavily on a used Spirit 750, which won't look or run like anything else on the road after I get done with it. I may be 19, but I'm pretty handy with paint and a welder, and I know my way around compression, timing, cams, carbs, porting and the like.

If anybody want's to give me some advice on making a spirit 750 motor a little nastier, please do.

Cruiser of the decade...you may be able to pick up a 97 or 98 for that $.

Nothing beats cruising down the highway and looking down at that big six cylinder engine between your knees.

Just don't tell KPaul you're 19. It will blow his theory on how young guys don't like cruisers.

The new Cycle World has a radically customized Spirit 750 in it. The guy breathed on the motor a bit as well. He's at some shop in New York listed in the article.

Good god, today's my birthday and I'm 20 years older than you! Back to the Geezer Glide..............

Dopn't waste your breath. Betamax has "the attitude" like KPaul does.

Maybe that's why I rode the Ducati yesterday doing my errands instead of the Geezer Glide. I'm still 30-something

I'm still 30-something

You can stay thirty something forever. My dad stopped having bithdays at thirty-nine, now he just has anniversaries of thirty-nine. So he's not turning 56 this year, it's his 17th anniversary.
