If I was on a moped and you were on a bike I wouldn't wave either, bastard!

Since I've survived at it for some 40 years now I'm not likely to change my riding style to please anyone else.

True, you can't get too worked up about what others do. Personally, when I am in a metro area, I may or may not wave but in rural areas I wave at everyone -- bicyclists, farmers on tractors, cowboys on horseback, people on their porches or whatever. Almost all wave back, but if they don't, it doesn't bother me.

When I am on my bicycle, I also wave at everyone -- almost all the motorcyclists (nearly all on Harleys around here) wave back.

There's lots of cow feilds near my house, It seems pointless to wave at a cow, so I just beep the horn instead, after the cows take off running, the farmer does alot of waving in my direction, I just consider it as doing my part to promote freindly motorcycling.

The oddest experience I've had redarding waves, was when a couple of friends and I rode in a Motorcycles for Muscular Dystrophy ride. The vast majority of the riders were on Harleys, and a guy on a Harley rode past the group waving to everyone. When he got to my buddies and me, all on sportbikes, he stopped waving, then put his hand back up after he passed us.

Stopping for all motorcyclists is also one of my rules to live by. I bet I've explained how to use the "reserve" to at least 5 stranded motorcyclists.

You can really tell quite a bit about a person reacts to help. I've stopped for all types of riders, usually while on my 26 year old CB750F. Most are just happy to get help, but some you can tell are not happy about someone stopping on an old bike that's worth $500 (maybe). Those people, in my opinion, are riding for all the wrong reasons.

You meet interesting people, also. I once stopped for a guy who had a late 70's Suzuki inline 4, that had some performance work done to it. He claimed it could do the 1/4 mile in 8 seconds, and could do 190 mph. Sometimes all you can do is smile and nod.
