Cool No Ferrari For Rossi

Rossi turns down Le Mans, Mexico

MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi has politely declined the chance to race a Ferrari, alongside former F1 star Jean Alesi, at next year's Le Mans 24 Hours race.

"I'm flattered by the offer from Jean,” La Gazzetta dello sport reports Rossi as saying, “but June is the most challenging month of the [MotoGP] world championship, with three races scheduled, and so it is impossible to participate."

In a further sign of just how seriously Rossi is taking the 2010 MotoGP World Championship, the Italian superstar has also ditched a planned drive in the Mexican round of the World Rally Championship.

"Valentino has also declined to take part in the Rally of Mexico on 5-7 March because it is too near the start of the season,” confirmed Rossi's Fiat Yamaha team manager Davide Brivio.

Rossi won his seventh MotoGP title by 45 points over team-mate Jorge Lorenzo this season, marking his closest title victory to date.

Hmm, perhaps the little guy has more integrity than I gave him credit for. This is a mature move on his part...I wonder how many people would turn down an F-1 ride if offered?

The man has 7 MotoGP championships, and it a true champion in every sense. I doubt any 'credit' you give him would exceed that.

He could retire next year and move on to the big bucks. Going out on top of the game is not a bad way to hang it up. Better than joining the Pantheon of Patheticness.

Rossi has turned down F-1 rides in the past. Personally I hope he finishes out his Yamaha contract and then takes the Ducati for the last year or preferably two years of his Motogp carrer. It would be exciting to see Rossi tame the Ducati. After that he can do whatever he wants with the car racing, I won't be watchin.

It's a 3 race month in GP in June. He's right to turn it down. If he crashed out in a Ferrari in mid season Yamaha would blow a gasket. Doesn't matter anyway. The man won't take a F1 ride when his M1 days are over. He'll be a Rally driver and put that sport back on American radar somewhere around 2014. He'll race the litre GP bikes for at least two seasons when they return.
