Cool Kawasaki pulls out of AMA

Kawasaki Pulls Out Of US RoadRacing

Thus just in:

KAWASAKI MOTORS CORP., U.S.A. SUSPENDS ROAD RACING FOR 2010 SEASON

IRVINE, Calif. (Dec. 18, 2009) ? Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. announced the company will not participate in the AMA Pro Racing road racing series in 2010.

"While we've always considered road racing an integral part of our sportbike development process, the realities of the current economic situation dictate the temporary suspension of our U.S. road racing activities," said Bruce Stjernstrom, marketing director.

Kawasaki's long history of successful road racing includes 20 AMA series championships. Among the many champions who have worn the Kawasaki lime green racing leathers are Reg Pridmore, Eddie Lawson, Wayne Rainey, Miguel Duhamel, Scott Russell, Doug Chandler, Eric Bostrom and more recently Tommy Hayden and Roger Hayden.

"We expect to see eventual improvements in the general economic condition and Kawasaki will reevaluate its road racing position as we monitor those issues," said Stjernstrom.

Wow. They get their way with Buell being gone and still they take their marbles and go home.

I know they are having economic problems but it's that racing that helps the sales of sport machines. Frankly considering the size of Kawasaki, LTD the costs of the racing effort aren't detectable.

Kawasaki Heavy Industries isn't just motorcycles. It's supertankers, aircraft, energy, rolling stock (railroads) and robotics.

Kawasaki uses the term "Lesiure Products" to describe it's motorcycle & ATV division.

Obviously the ends don't justify the means anymore, fielding a race team. While we have a myopic view of the big "K" with regards to motorcycles, Kawasaki is much more than that.

And I'm sure the AMA had nothing to do with it (LOL).

Racing is fine as long as you are selling motorcycles. When the sales slow to a crawl, the millions dumped into racing becomes a severe liability. Just reality of life.

"the temporary suspension of our U.S. road racing activities"

Or, translated: "...the suspension of our road racing activities until somebody other than those retards at DMG are running things."

Or, translated: "...the suspension of our road racing activities until the AMA can again guarantee our yearly championships that we paid for."

Fixed it.

Suzuki will dominate the Superbike Class this coming year, without Mladin. That will be interesting. Sure would like to see the manufactures make a move to WERA and propel that series beyond what the AMA ever was-or start their own org.

Sorta like Chevy and a car with the aerodynamics of a brick wall being the "Winningest car in NASCAR" (i.e. the Monte Carlo) - if you're the only one goin' round in circles, nobody should expect you to be anything BUT "First Place" when you stop.

That's a series that holds races where people actually show up to watch.
