Default New Rider thinking of purchasing a 2008 Honda Rebel CMX250C

Hello everyone -
I am a 6'2", 350lbs new rider thinking of purchasing a 2008 Honda Rebel CMX250C. I seem to fit the bike relatively well, but I'm wondering if it will ride well with me on it. Any suggestions? Should I opt for a bigger bike? Thanks!!!!

Riding it is the only way you'll know for sure how well you fit on it - sitting on one in the showroom won't really tell you.

BUT, I've a friend that had one for his first bike - he rode it back and forth to work for 2 or 3 years, then bought a Sportser 1200. He's 6' 3" and (was!) 250lbs. And it looked smallish on him, but was reliable and got him there and back.

You should know, that no-matter what you weigh, the Rebel 250 is gonna be gasping above about 60mph, and all-tapped-out by 85. Not that I'd want to go any faster on one, as it IS nearly a 30-year-old design, with little or no changes in all the ensuing time.

At 6ft and 265lbs I felt like a monkey fvcking a football on the little Rebel. But to each their own. Persoanlly, I'd look for a used Kawasaki 500 Vulcan to train on. A little more room. A little more power. More torque- which is a good thing since you weigh in at 3/4 of the total weight of the bike. And you could actually get a passenger on it once you gain some skills. Since this is a "trainer" bike you understand you will drop it. So- buy used. Mid 90's to 2003 and you'll spend less than $3500. If you can put up with the ugly a$$ looks consider a Buell Blast, too. It will give you a little more leg room than the tiny cruisers.
