Default is a 250 cc good for a 300 pound beginner

Hello all, i was wondering about the ninja 250. Would it be a good bike for my size. Am 6 ft tall. I am a pretty solid 300. I threw discus and hammer in college. I was also looking at the gsf500, piaggio MP3 500, gsx650f,ninja 500. Thanks D

Funny you should ask this because this very morning on ther way to work on I-15 I passed some big guy who was riding a V-Star250. Looked pretty funny, all hunched forward and riding WFO just to do 60.

A Ninja250 might work okay (it's got a lot more power than the V-Star) but you would look like a potato perched on a toothpick. The 500s/650s would probably be better.

If you're in no particular hurry to be anywhere you're fine. I would suggest a early 2000-2003 Ninja 500. The GS is a good bike but the Ninja has better brakes. A maxi-scoot like the mp3 is fine, but expensive. Try looking at the Kymco 500 cc scoot for much less money.

I never recommend the Wee Bitty Strom. It's dumb to buy a 650 when you can get a 1000 for a few measly dollars more. I also don't think Stroms are good for beginners at all; they're big and topheavy, and unless you're 6'2" or taller, it's a stretch to the ground. VStroms, especially the 1000's, are only for the accomplished motorcyclist who not only appreciates it's unique combination of ride, capability, and style, but is able to deal with it's lethal combination of power and razor-edge handling.

However, one of those inline 4 BMWs are supposed to be good for the larger man. I've heard.
