As mentioned before the SV650 is an awesome bike. If you like the look of the big ninjas check out the 650r. Its a 650 parallel twin that is around the same power

Since test rides aren't always guaranteed and the bikes condition being even more important for a new rider, I guess just going with if it sounds right, looks right and feels right should be good enough.
