Default need help with my first bike!

hi,
I'm buying my first bike, I did the course to ride and everything, I'm 24 and really tall, so i need a big bike. I'm in between a 79 gold wing that is quite cheap and needs a bit of fixing, a new 2010 electra 500 royal enfield or a suzuki gs500. I also need a big bike because I live in Colombia, outside of Bogota, and it takes me about an hour to get from work to my house.
I love the look of classic bikes, and I really don`t like sport bikes, I know many of you are experienced riders and would like your point of view.

Tall is not an issue. Experience is an issue. Personally, at 24yo, it would lead me to a lovely used Honda CB750 Nighthawk. Cheap, easy to maintain, parts are everywhere and they still look good from the old 1985 S model to the 2003 yr model.

Well the 'Wing is over 30 years old. As bullet-proof as they are, that's a long, long time for any machine. Unless you're really handy with repairs, I'd get something newer.

The new Enfiels are highly rated in the reviews. I like their simple design and standard riding position.

The GS could go either way, depending on who owned it and how it was maintained (assuming it's used).

I'd get the Enfield and add a windshield and leather saddlebags for your commute.

I wish io could buy one Nighthawk, only problem, they don´t sell them here, the classic style bikes aren't very popular here. The first triumph shop is opening in about 2 weeks, and theyre selling the twice the us us price, so while the triumph bonnevile is about 14k the royal enfield is 6k

Dude, buy used. Find a Suzuki Bandit 600 or 400 and ride it until the wheels fall off. Don't buy new for your first bike. When you drop it you will become a sad and despondent MOron. BTW- MOron applies to most of us on MO. Get it? Kawasaki made a great ride in the KLR650. Dual Sport madness with Adventure ability.

As always, I second the KLR 650 or a wee strom, (vstrom 650) especially if your roads arent tip top. More travel is good.
