To answer the trackday question: I think a pocketbike would get in the way of the real bikes, but what you need to do is find one of those kids novelty go-kart tracks to race on. I've seen pocketbikes going for 450 CDN at the auto auction here. I think they're the cheap chinese knock-offs.

Pocket bikes probably wouldn't do it for me, as far as a substitute for track days. They might be fun, in the right place, but if I can't get to the track I'd rather hit the dirt.

Pocket bikes look more likely to hurt the motorcycle world, the way they are being used now. Monitarily challenged kids buying them and riding them on the road, etc... They are not meant to be on the road, but, ya can't stop Darwin...only slow him down.

And I can only hope motorcycle road racing gets half as popular as Nascar. The money for the riders, they increased visibility of motorcycles in a good light. Improved track safety, all good. The bad, the cost to run a pro race program will get even more absurd than it is allready. It would take a character (like Mr France in nascar) to bring it up in the world. Which means that they would have to pry it out of the greedy little hands of the AMA pro racing guys. Who would then be the iron fisted ruler of the series.

As far as a supplement to the track days. I would sugest that you go find a 125 or 250 dirt bike and ride it when you can't get to the track. They are cheep used, and inexpensive to own, and a blast to ride.

I'd never dream of putting a pocket bike on a real roadcourse. From what I've been reading, there's quite a bit of PB racing in the South, on Kart-tracks, airports and even parking lots And, even some Mini side-hack racing.

Me? I live in NW Pa. about 45 miles from Lake Erie. Don't know if, or when, PB racing will get up around here. Just seems like it might be a nice Cheap-Thrill, if it does.

I was checking out PBs online and, like you said, they seem to come in at $400 - $450 US, for the better Chinese models. I keep hearing about 15hp models, but I ain't found none yet. Probably a good thing.

Don't get me started on the AMA. I don't want to get sacked from here.

Besides, I'd never use words like treacherous, greedy, complacent, self-serving, arrogant, ineffective, smug, self-satisfied, autocratic or megalomaniacal to discribe the AMA.

Did I forget self-congratulating? Okay! I wouldn't say that, either

That would be wrong.

...I agree totally, and I'm alright with this segragation... I like the track atmosphere and if being mainstream comes at the cost of being surrounded by mullets and stars and bars I'd much rather fork out the extra cash to leave it unchanged and enjoyed by the cool few... Track riders are some of the nicest people I've come across. I'm sure we've all heard the joke that you could show up at a club race with nothing more than jeans and a T-shirt and be racing by the end of the day. Besides, it would be a real drag trying to get around a full dresser on the track... Especially with all those flags hanging off the back and Free Bird blasting on the radio.

kpaul,

Rather than put up with GWB for four more years, have you given any thought to bugging out of the USA?

But where to go? Canada's too close, and the western provinces are way too much like the US. Maybe you could join Robert Redford in Ireland? Hmm, still too close. How 'bout New Zealand? They've said that they will welcome young, energetic, highly educated, insightful and articulate professionals that are disillusioned with life in the USA under the brutal conditions imposed by GWB. Sounds just like you! Throw in the fact that you are the "Great Motorcycle Profit" and they'll have you hooked up with our own heard of sheep in no time!

Whaddya' think, MOrons? Should kpaul go to New Zealand? Should we start a collection to buy him airfare?

My vote is yes!
